Racerboy was kind enough to gift me Sid Meier's Civilization V Complete (it's on sale for $16 from GameStop right now). I don't have a clue how to play it; I've never played a strategy game in my life but I heard Civ V was great.

Just start a game, and start doing stuff till it works.

i'd do dx11 if your magicbox supports dx11 i guess

tried both DX11 and Win 8
both will do the weird splash screen, then go to the intro cutscene (and rotate hues on my screen by -120 degrees for some reason)
when it gets into the actual game i can't alt+tab in

edit: nvm just takes several minutes to load

the advisers are all idiots
they whine and complain at me to spend my money by quick building units or buildings but then I see the AI that follow that advice and they always have 0 gold with -50 a turn

The tutorial definitely teaches the basics, but doesn't really prepare you for the actual game. Id like to play this game though with a big group of people someday. Should probably pick it back up again and relearn how to play.
