Author Topic: What is your opinion about player-based vehicles?  (Read 2045 times)

Basicly there is two types of vehicles that you can make, physics vehicles and player based vehicles, the physics ones works just like the Jeep, but we all know the glitches it have with physics, and the player based ones works like the default horse, which means you don't have to worry about any glitches with physics.

I just wonder what do you guys prefer, I have a secret project in my mind that will use playertype vehicles and I want to know if the community is up for that, if you can explain both vehicle types better than I did then please feel free.

It kinda depends on the vehicle itself.

Give it a shot. Hopefully it works to make racing better.

the physics are fine

but id like to see what you have in mind

Well you can certainly have a race with a bunch of players next to each other without worrying about the physics throwing them away, something like nascar

Something like tiny pedal cars would make sense for something like player-based right?

Player based is better for competitive.
Physics vehicle is more fun to drive.

Well it can work for full sized race cars too, and if you make it a playertype instead you can add that boost from the sports playertype as some sort of nitro, I have that in mind for a project

Wouldn't the collision box for a big car be pretty stupid though?

How come, it would be if the road is 8x wide

I thought you can't make a bigger collision box for a player-based vehicle - collisions between cars would look quite silly.

There are those dragons and dinosaurs which are pretty big and it also have a collision box that fits their sizes so it's pretty much possible to make a proportional collision box for a car

My question is wouldn't the cars be able to turn instantly like the player? That'd be rather weird.

there isn't much to do about that, it's just a workaround about the physics really

It depends. For cars and such, it would look very ugly, however for a cow it would look nice.

For the other way around, cars would look like they actually fit, for a cow it would just look really weird seeing it go all car-like

It's just meh. Very debatable. Personally I prefer physics for wheeled vehicles and flying vehicles and bots for living creatures or small things.

I do agree that we badly need an update to the vehicles system. Make boat-like physics vehicles easier to make and work better, stop the odd physics craziness. If you're gonna make cars be bots JUST BECAUSE of the physics problems then I think that is just silly. When it does work, it works nicely. What I want to know is why speedkarts freak out more, when we used to have freaking jeep sumos back in v8? I think it's something with the speedkarts themselves, maybe a setting is just too high or a special code breaks the game in some way.
