Force clients to download GUI's, Textures, Sounds and FastDL support?

Like a fastdl server I guess, I'm going have a go at making a system similar to rtb. So far there's only one person interested, I was hoping there would be a few more.

You're going to need to have knowledge coding in a lot of languages other than just Torque.
It's not an easy task to make a service similar to RTB.

bisjac has said before that he's against most mods in general (and by extension modders) but i don't know if that's still true

and how would that be? who is "we"
because so long as a team of non step-1-games, blockland fans are manually moderating anything at all. it will never be official and never be accepted by badspot.
therefore it will never be safe and never be kept up to standard.

what you are talking about is mod management. and like every other time its happened, it will be ddosed until the creator abandons it and leaves everyone who used it out to dry.
not to mention you will be an unaffiliated user who is now cherry picking mods for his project here. that means you are splitting the community, and its mods. the very last thing you should be doing.

I would just like to see other player's faces or decals, GUI Download should be an option that is enabled by default but can be turned off, as for FastDL, that should be a must.


I definitely would not want HTML supported in loading screens though, because of stuff like Pinion or in game ads.

Pinion is stuff for people who want lodsemone, anyway I don't think Torque would even support that. It won't be added.

I can probably get a basic GUI and perhaps a basic chat server or something done in a week, depending on how hard I work.

like, what if another scenario like the Slayer update happens? like, say the whole force-downloading thing was in effect, and it was this really popular server

and so everybody who joins pretty much gets forgeted over and all of their other add-ons deleted

except it could probably be worse if some popular servers have an innocent-like add on that ends up containing a backdoor, and everyone who joins that unknowing of it ends up having to download it

in other words, it could probably be dangerous as it's not so easy to predict that kind of stuff, nobody saw it coming when the Slayer update happened

When I join a css server the last thing I'm thinking about are viruses. (Isn't that why we have anti-virus programs?).

believe it or not but blockland's community is forgeted up by tons compared to others

anti-virus programs wont spot stuff right off the bat, and believe it or not but i know a lot of players on blockland who only have the default windows anti virus
