Author Topic: Tactical Extraterrestrial Combat On Blockland Grids  (Read 5654 times)

Heavily inspired by both the classic X-COM(1994) and Enemy Unknown(2012). TACO PIG is another inspiration. Why did it have to die?

This is no longer "heavily inspired by", this is just a straight ripoff. Of an existing ripoff. Can't you make a single forum RP that isn't 90-100% lifted from something else?

Welcome, new EXALT commander! In the past few days, the Cult Of Sirius has been brainwashed/taken over by Aliens. The cult has long believed in redemption of the human race by a superior Alien race.  EXALT, however, seeks to use alien technology for world domination. Although EXALT agrees with the Aliens, we do not side with them. The Aliens refuse to cooperate with anyone that is not the Cult Of Sirius, and they voice their displeasure with plasma bolts to the face.



You will be taking our troops on EXALT's first mission. EXALT Troops are armed with bulletproof business suits and either a rifle or pistol. Our current weapons are low-quality crap made in some foreign country, but that is all we can afford. We spent most of our budget on fancy rugs and carpets made from an endangered species. Until we can acquire more funds, your weaponry will be made by the lowest bidder. Please note that our weapons are still better than X-COM's, however.



You'll be heading into the city to deal with a disturbance by the Cult of Sirius. X-COM will also be present at the site, so they'll have to be taken out too. Expect a 3-way battle to break out. Your objective will be to acquire alien technology.

---Combat---
Combat is engaged upon spotting or being spotted by an enemy. When combat is engaged, this thread will switch to Turn Based Combat. Gameplay is realtime until combat is engaged.

Every soldier has 10 Time Units.. X-COM forces and Aliens may contain more than 10 Time Units.
Moving 1 tile/square is 1 Time Unit.
Soldiers automatically take cover if they can find it.
Priming a grenade is 2 Time Units. Throwing it is 3 Time Units.
Throwing a non-grenade(Ex. Medkits) is 2 time units.
Reloading is 4 Time Units.

Shooting
SNAP SHOT: 4 TUs
AIMED SHOT: 5 TUs (Accuracy increase)
AUTO SHOT: 5 TUs, 3 round burst
SPRAY AND PRAY: 6 TUs, fire a long burst.
BASH: 2 TUs, bash an enemy with the rifle.


Nobody even uses the above.

Soldiers can target individual limbs, from the eyes to the groin to the neck.

This was slightly rushed because the my NVIDIA GTX 570 card keeps stopping and recovering.



The Cult Of Sirius is currently massacring a small town. As you can see in this image, cultists in green are inside a building massacring the civilians. Police are on the scene.



A UFO has also landed nearby. Our objective will be to get there first before X-COM does, and acquire alien technology.



Ready for battle, our operatives step off the Boxranger, and.....



......Disaster strikes. The first man to step off the Boxranger and onto the ramp is instantly shot and killed by the aliens. The rest of the team follows suit, stepping off the Boxranger to their deaths.



Only six of our operatives are still alive. We're counting on you to get through this alive.

Name the squad commander "Templar Alpha"

And fire a rocket to the building and use a battle scanner to show the locations of the aliens. Otherwise: Overwatch

One of the troopers must be 1000 Anti-Memes.


EXALT-3 steps off the skyranger and is instantly shot! The smoke grenade he was carrying goes off!


Right before getting shot, however, EXALT-3 manages to report whats going on outside the Boxranger: X-COM has been massacred by the Cult Of Sirius members, assisted by a miniature UFO!


EXALT-2 steps out of the Boxranger to open fire, but discovers X-COM survivors charging at him with Stun Rods! Meanwhile, the cultists are firing on the Boxranger!

On a side note, should I scrap the Time Units since it seems nobody uses them?

Order Exalt 2 to pull out the grenade with his thumb on the pin, and have him tell the X-COM units charging him that he'll pull the pin if they take another step.



The miniature UFO hovers over to the Boxranger and opens fire, hitting the X-COM agents by mistake!



The rest of the aliens open fire on the squad, but they can't shoot accurately due to the smoke everywhere! The rest of the squad moves out and gets ready to engage.

Yup, its a Cyberdisc. But EXALT doesn't know it is until they autopsy it.
