why are females so rare on the Internet?

It depends where you look mate.

The BLF isn't a prime example of equal gender split, but something like tumblr or facebook is pretty much 50/50 on the guy/girl ratio

just a little tip for the future. If they're strutting around the forums trying to draw attention to the "fact" that they're female, then there is a higher chance they're really not female at all.
