Author Topic: Windows 7 (64-bit) Install Disk says CPU does not support 64-bit  (Read 1308 times)

can you post more info on the processor? it being a Pentium 4 doesn't tell us anything. there are 32-bit series and 64-bit series

ducky
again and again, the forum members have told you that your machine is too old to do (most) anything modern
you either have to build a new one or be stuck with what you have
there is almost no alternative

I was using Windows XP, then I switched to Linux Ubuntu, then I couldn't stand playing Blockland on Ubuntu so I tried switching back but it didn't work. So now I'm trying to get Win7.
Installing 7 on an XP computer probably wouldn't be the best idea. See if you can find an XP install disc.

Linux generally is not good for games. That's why you had trouble with Ubuntu.

If you are unable to reinstall XP, I recommend installing Lubuntu. While it's just as bad for games, it should be lightning quick on nearly any hardware it's compatible with.

Blockzilla incoming.
Holy stuff, you perfectly called it. And he didn't even mention it anyway. What the forget just happened here.

Well considering the install disc told him it wasn't 64-bit, I'd assume it's 32-bit.

yeah so post specs to determine best os to install

ok then.

if OP doesn't know the specs, he should post the computers model. Then we could find the specs by googling it.

but since op always makes help topics and never responds again after suggestions, this thread is over gg

Dell Dimension 8400 series

Pentium 4
ATI/AMD Radeon x300 series
4GB ram (I got more RAM)
Windows XP Pro (32-bit)
And I'm not sure about other components but I know I can't upgrade the CPU due to the socket.

OP has delivered.

Since you can't upgrade the CPU, you need a 32-bit OS.

IMO, if it came with XP, then that's the best thing for it.

wait, by that did you mean you now have a total of 4gb? or more than 4gb?

He means that it did not come with that much ram, so he got more.

Oh my god.

I just had to bury my Dell Dimension 8400. I owned mine for about 10+ years. How the forget are they still out there, polluting the wild?

I had to swipe a ATI Raedon x1300/x1550 from another Dell office machine I owned just so that it could run the most basic games at a consistent framerate, and then swap out the RAM like you did for 4GBs (which was a miracle as far as making it work), and buy a new HDD since the old one was soooo stuff..

I do not pity you, mate.
