Author Topic: is at&t lying to me  (Read 4874 times)

forget now I'm pissed. can't I get something out of them for lying to my face about the gaming thing?
That can be counted as false advertising, since they're saying it does something that it doesn't. But I doubt you'll get far since America's justice system only let's big companies win cases.

gaming could be okay, but i'd have to boot everyone else off the internet. i can easily do that with a program i have.

are you sure its not because of wifi
what do you mean, im not using wifi

IIRC it says on the package page for speeds, UP TO the speed. Not guaranteed AT the speed.

Yeah here's the page:

Damn, they always find some loophole that where they show all their maximum benefits on the commercial but the actual product is a 90% diluted version.

i wanted to just get internet, because internet is the only thing i do in my life, but my mom wanted tv too so we got directv as well :/

what do you mean, im not using wifi

because wifi is loving slow, and it will never lt you use certain speeds.

an isp just gives you a high cap because you will likely multitask that traffic.
a website or game will not use all the internet you have. their own servers limit users.

steam dosnt give a forget and will let me download a game at 6megabytes per second.
then another website will load slowly for no reason other then they are cheap and have stuffty servers or something.

internet speeds are rated in megaBITS. actual download speeds are in megaBYTES and a megabyte is significantly smaller than a megabit. like my isp offers 25 mbs down, in reality all I get is a measly 3mb/s

ye something like that that or im terribly misinformed

megabyte = smaller than a megabit? wat?

speed is measured in megabits.
amount of data is measured in megabytes.

speed is measured in megabits.

i'm confused. are you talking about the data that some isps use now?

phone data are just sold by megabytes, because speed is irrelevant. your speed is 3/4g.

ALLLLLL isps sell internet by megabit. because your data is (normally) infinite, and you are buying speed, not amounts of data.

if your home has a 3 megabit package, you are getting a max 375killabytes of speed per second.

that's horsestuff, and i'm pretty sure it's also extortion.

but thats good. you want infinite data. its speed thats relevant and you need to pay for.

and they cant sell you "amounts" of speed because that dosnt make sense.
thats like buying a 10mph sack of apples.

and a bit is /8th of a byte

3mbit = 3000 kilobits, /8 = 375k per second
