I really do not reccomend AMD in general.
He should get and Intel CPU imo.
He also should get Windows 8, it starts up much faster then 7.
But besudes that the specs are amazing for gaming.

theres nothing wrong with AMD.

Wow, kinda crap for a $860 computer.

you can get way more bang for your buck if you build it yourself performance and money wise

in the the UK (which I'm assuming you're in due to the websites region) those prices are good.

Watching a video on it right now and looks simple, gonna need to see if my dad has the right tools :l
My friend however isn't convinced because Frankieonpc says you're better off buying your own
as long as your dad has a screwdriver he has the right tools.

Building a computer is super easy. I built my current rig in less than one and a half hours.

Bump
Can I also get suggestions for a mouse (and mousepad),headphones, monitor and keyboard?

Headphones: http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-siberia-v2
Keyboard + mouse (if you're looking for a cheap fix) : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823129030
Cheap yet good keyboard : http://steelseries.com/products/keyboards/steelseries-apex-raw-gaming-keyboard (not mechanical - if you want a good mech keyboard you'll have to go for more money)
Mouse : http://steelseries.com/products/mice/steelseries-rival (Doesn't really matter as long as its good quality)
Mousepad : http://steelseries.com/products/surfaces (personal suggestion since its from the same site as most of the other products)

Can't help you on the monitor - just get a good screen that can support high resolution

i would spend the tiny bit extra for the 4g version of the 660 instead.
but otherwise its all good for modern games

its... good
the thing is is that you could get the same thing for ~100 pounds less if you bought the parts individually and put it together yourself.

yeah back in 2009 you could do that
nowadays you can just select parts online and get it at the same price
http://www.ibuypower.com/
got my pc from here^
its been great for the 2 years and i plan on getting a new one in 5 months when i get the money for it and converting the one i have now into a server

No, its still cheaper to build it yourself.

Can anyone find a motherboard in the UK that supports i5? (£100-£175)

are you sure you want to pay the extra money for Intel?  If you are on any sort of medium-small budget then Intel will swallow a large part of it.
