This is purely my opinion, so anyone is free to disagree with me. I'm not trying to incite any anger regarding what I think happened.

The human brain does not cope with loss well, especially when it is someone so close to you like a Father. Death is something very, very final and leaves people with a lot of unanswered questions and grief. People who have lost someone usually want to see the one who passed with such great passion that they appear in their dreams, and they also want to know that the lost family member is safe. So maybe their brain shows that their lost one is safe and sound through their dream to give the grieving person a sense of closure.

Now, this is what I think happened and all I am attempting to do is explain logically what might have happened to incite a dream like this. If anyone thinks that this can be explained in a more supernatural way that's fine, but this is my thoughts on what might have transpired.

people are so superstitious, or just wanting to believe these things.

its kinda dangerous to be so open minded that just any crazy stuff fiction you read or see on tv can be true to you.
I agree in part with that.
But in this case, I don't think it's dangerous really.

And as far as dreams go, you don't have to truly believe that you were in contact with the dead to take something meaninful away from the vision you had. Whether it was divine, or from beyond the grave or not, you still had an epiphany/emotional response to it.

k so i had to bump this to explain some information i found out today.

my sister's boyfriend got into a somewhat fatal motorcycle crash, and he died 4 times while being in the hospital. he said when he died, he saw my dad. my dad told him stuff like what REALLY happened the day of his death and what we need to do. he told him that his favorite american flag bandana that's currently in my grandma's house, belong in my room. i personally believe him, because the dude has never met or seen my dad before. and he gave names of relatives that he didn't even know about. what do you guys think about this?

op confirmed schizophrenic

i don't think you know what schizophrenia is.

Well they say family members who have died can "wait" for the "right moment" before "leaving". You will only understand the words in quotations if you have an open mind.

"They say you die twice. Once when you stop breathing and the second, a bit later on, when somebody mentions your name for the last time." - Bansky

Dreams are very tightly woven into psychology and Pattern Theory. How they are constructed and why they are constructed are two big questions that answers are difficult to get, but "What" is easy to answer.

Dreams use evocative stimuli (any pattern that causes our brain activity to light up, due to how many neural connections it makes) to create a simulated space. Then, the brain plays a story though that space, with you as the soul participant. Because story-telling is natural to human life, we all have the power to dream. Each dream is tied together with a "theme". The theme itself is usually based off a problem that our subconscious mind recognises; for example, the subconscious might feel lonely, so in the dream you may be at a party with lots of friends.

Your dream, whether it was spiritually-influenced or not, has been influenced by something that your subconscious recognises, that you do not.

Before any forgeter says the words "collective subconscious", please remember the Freud did not mean "collective" as in all people in a room share thoughts. What he was describing was that a child will inherit knowledge from his parents, and their parents, and every person on their family tree. The idea is that knowledge all funnels down.
