Author Topic: The Tutorial needs a serious revamp  (Read 2295 times)

One of the largest complaints about the game is that people simply don't know how to do things. Many of them never even notice the tutorial.

Here's some suggestions I have:
 - On first run, a yes/no dialog should be shown asking if the user wants to play the tutorial.
 - The tutorial should be broken into several parts. The first should cover movement. This is basically the tutorial right now. The second part should cover building and should go into detail on the controls and how to use the numpad properly. The third part should explain how to install and use add-ons.

Maybe also a little tutorial in the main menu on first startup that tells them how to change their name?

I think a bunch of people who can event, build and do all the cool stuff should make a guide for new players

An external website with lots of tutorials of... everything would be nice.
Like blockland central. Now that we are at it. Why not implant a new rtb in it?

If Badspot is willing to add it into the game, I'll gladly take the time to revamp the tutorial based on what info is missing and what could be added; even make it way more organized.

One thing for sure is that anyone who just gets the game should be forced into the tutorial so that people don't skip it join a server and start pestering people when they join a game about how to do everything.

maybe admins could get a new command which sends players to a single player game with tutorial gamemode

/sendtotutorial

That is amazingly abusable.

I remember a "review" of Blockland where the person complained that there was no way to fly to higher places.

That is amazingly abusable.
then why give them admin? these same people can kick people out of the server and ban people. seriously i dont understand the deal with this community and "abusable" things.

That's assuming that the host isn't an abuser themselves, and promotes only good admins, all the time, no exceptions.

Which is impossible. There will always be admin abusers, no matter what precautions are in place.

If this was an addon, sure, but if this was a legitimate game feature, it would be terrible.

Also, what the hell, Crispy? this is just my opinion, not "this community"'s. What is your deal? You complain so much about this over something one person says.

there's a fine line where the idea of something is actually fairly idealistic in its expectation for valid use. i agree that the "abusable" flag is raised more frequently than necessary, but you have to understand that the idea you proposed is even kinda limited in legitimate use. the idea is nice, but in application, it's a pretty fair amount of power over the victim's actual game client.

It's one thing to kick someone from a server, but it would be entirely different to be able to kick someone from the server and force them to enter another game at the same time. Your suggestion is absolutely not gonna happen.

When you launch Blockland for the first time it should open the setName menu, or just attempt to set your name to your steam name.

i have seen many people share this opinion based on my past experience
