Author Topic: Tried to give blood today.  (Read 1782 times)

My school was hosting a blood drive, at first I wasn't going to because I hate needles. I get to class and my teacher offers extra credit for blood donors, still not budging I sit and do my work. Then the blood drive people came to our room pretty much pleading for people to join in on the drive. I stood up and said to my classmates I'd do it if someone joined me, no one did but since I had already stood up I said the hell with it and went with them.
After waiting and drinking water I'm finally in the room where they tested my blood, they pricked my finger twice because it was hard to draw blood from the first one. After the tests and such I'm told to lay down on the bed so I do. Then it turns out my only semi-usable vein isn't even big enough to draw from.

On the bright side I still got free food and some extra credit for trying to give.

EDIT: I still got the sticker + I should be getting a blood donor card so I can try again next time. I just wasn't hydrated enough at that moment.

tl:dr - After the tests and such it turns out my vein was too small to give. So I was pricked
twice for nothing.

it's the thought that counts

First time I tried to give they missed my vein twice.

Props to you for manning up though

Not old/healthy enough to donate. (I need my blood.)

But one time before surgery, they missed my veins 4 times just to get the IV in.

Thanks, I really wanted to give though. I was kinda disappointed when I couldn't give.

speaking of veins, mines are so visible through my wrist/arms and they sorta bulge up on my hands

sorry if you can't see them well enough, but they are pretty visible and obvious

They wont tell me why.

My veins bulge out as well

I also "donated" blood once
They where testing me for diabetes and had to take blood from me.
Turns out I didn't have diabetes and they used to blood for something else.
I didn't get free food :(

I think it's because your veins are filled with nothing, ya cold bastard.[/sarcasm]

Its not that they couldn't be found, it was just too small.

Yeah, thats right. They didn't take much anyway.

My school has also been hosting a blood drive recently and of course I'm not old enough to donate.

Same issue with me.

Just glad you were willing to give in the first place.
