Author Topic: The Pope says that choosing not to have children is a "selfish choice"  (Read 3746 times)

What's wrong with you Francis?

Quote
A society that "views children above all as a worry, a burden, a risk, is a depressed society," Francis said.

I hope he isn't addressing people as a whole here.

Quote
"Not to have children is a selfish choice," he said. "Life rejuvenates and acquires energy when it multiplies: It is enriched, not impoverished!"

Dang.

I thought this should be shared to see what anyone else thinks.

I guess I'm a selfish jerk.

because overpopulation is never going to be a problem

so, anybody wanna be "not selfish" with me tonight?
because overpopulation is never going to be a problem
actually it isn't, most of malthus' theories have been wrong for the past few centuries.

A lot of it sounds like he is saying to have love every day.

guess I should get busy

It's an understandable view.
He's coming from a religion that believes ones seed should only be used for having children, and that contraception isn't acceptable.
It's not at all bizarre for him to believe that having children is a priority in life.

And really, it's hardly the worst thing a pope has said.
And he has been a fairly progressive pope so far.

so, anybody wanna be "not selfish" with me tonight?

Sure, let's go hit goodwill and give away all your worldly possessions bby

"What's wrong with you Francis?"

About that... If you haven't read about how good of a pope he has been you would be surprised.
Now while I do not really believe he has done a few good deeds: Admitted that the big bang is real, feeding the poor, and meeting the other religious factions.

One strong conservative opinion (what isn't even that rough imo) is okay to say. While francis has done great things he has the right to present his own religion too, keep that in mind.

sir dooble also gave a good insight. this is what i mean.

you're looking at the way he says this the wrong way

he's not condemning people who don't have children, he never said "you're going to hell if you don't"

it isn't, most of malthus' theories have been wrong for the past few centuries.
sorry. i forgot india and africa don't exist. my bad

i like some of his "let's stop killing cigarettes" opinions but this one is stuff

sorry. i forgot india and africa don't exist. my bad
maaaan, you're arguing that over population is a problem, and you don't even put china into the list?

No. Just no. There needs to be less people.

maaaan, you're arguing that over population is a problem, and you don't even put china into the list?
