I have a very well paying job and I am completing my degree in geospatial engineering.  I also happen to host game servers and don't want to pay for them out of pocket.  Problem?

I'd have thought you would learn to be a bit less of a jerk when you quit crashing servers, but I guess I was wrong.
You are in no position to be telling people how to spend their money, bud. It is not your job to go around and tell people how sad it is that they ask for donations so that they can continue doing something they love.

He probably uses the money he earns from his job on what he needs too survive, and uses donations on the server.

school, rent, groceries, power bill, cable bill, cellphone bill, insurance, textbooks, gas, car repairs, etc, etc, etc. He said he has a low paying job at the moment so I really doubt he can afford $400 a year for his server.  Ignorance isn't always bliss my friend.

I don't see anything wrong with what he is doing.  All he is doing is giving someone the ability to donate in order to enhance their experience on their servers.  The money goes toward the servers, keeping them up, etc.  As he said earlier he works as a geospatial engineer, which means he most likely works for the U.S. Army and that is a huge job.  I can see why he doesn't want to pay out of pocket.  Lastly, as said earlier, you don't have to donate in order to win, none of his servers are pay to win.
