Author Topic: did game prices drop or something  (Read 782 times)

i've been seeing a lot of new games for $49.99 which is $10(?) less then the average amount new games seem to go for

has anyone else seen anything like this or what

i've seen a lot of cases where the pc version of a game is $50 while the console version is $60, it's not uncommon

I've never understood why PC games cost less, granted I like that, but really. You spent quite a bit of money for a purely game playing device just to pay more for games?
Boggles my mind why consoles still exist with their price ranges.

because console to pc ports are normally stuff

Console games are almost always $60 on release, as part of an "agreement" with publishers that create copies of the game and ship it to retailers.  If the retailers don't sell it for $60 they run the risk of falling out of favor with those publishers really.

PC games on the other hand have usually always been $50.  Some big titles are $60 but these are typically the same publishers that are also pushing console versions of the game out as well.  With Steam, however, they don't give a stuff about what minimum price the publisher says they want, because they're the dominant PC distributor anyway and sales happen literally every season.

So no, prices haven't really dropped.  You're just noticing the gap between prices.

Plus im assuming that console games cost slightly more because they still use disks, as opposed to PC where pretty much every game now is digital.

Nah, even with discs PC games were basically $50.  When games started being sold at $60 I was shocked.

console games cost more because of the cost it takes to ship them. Gotta print the discs, ship them off to shops and other stuff. The shops have to make a profit off of them

On PC it can be done digitally. No disc creating and smaller storefront fees

In my local gaming store if a pc game is for example 10€, PS3/Xbox360 is 20€ and PS4/Xbone is 30€.
Pc master race.

There is a cost for creating CD copies and preparing the packaging but it's not as expensive as you'd think.  Hell PC games usually came with user guides too that explained how to install, play, etc., the cost is really negligible.

Yeah and didn't they have to get a license too? Doesn't Microsoft also ask for money to update a game? (Really unsure about the latter, take that with a lot of salt)
