I realize the missiles have failed to release, swing around again, and target them at the rear hull of the ship. This time, they fire, and I watch them scoot away to the ship.

Faw speaks in an exasperated and nervous voice over the comm link-
"Okay guys... We should focus fire on the 50cm and shock cannons. If we're going to have to bail eventually we might as well protect the friendlies on shore first."

"Let's focus fire on a single cannon- we should be able to knock it out."

holy stuff autocorrect

I gain on the warship, targeting its already damaged rear deck, and fire off 20 of my unguided rockets at the already damaged LAMS, followed by a couple of shots from my coaxials into the turret holding 3 of the guns in its massive armament. Then I break off, hard, and pop flares as I do so.

"I'm betting on the turrets being armored enough to withstand unguided rockets... We could focus on the rear deck, and try to damage its engine or rudder. An immobile battleship is nothing more than a floating pillbox, after all."

Bell approaches from the bow of the ship and aims for the two large batteries in the front. She fires off a salvo of FEAR-12 rockets and three salvos of RL-20s, finishing off with an extended burst of GAU/8 fire before breaking off. Some of the rockets fly slightly north of their target, which means that they're headed towards the center of the ship.

"stuff."
I head in for another saturation attack, but reconsider.
"Saturation attacks aren't going to do stuff against this thing, unless we're saturating its hull with missiles. Fly in low on the bow."
I turn my plane around, maneuvering for another pass, this time attempting to punch a hole in its bow.

"If you want to go through the entire loving ship to it's engine, then go ahead. I still suggest we go for the cannons to protect the ground forces. Whatever."

Faw lines up the front-most battery, approaches from the rear, and fires an AGM and a JSM at it.

"(coughing noise) Uh, the armor is thickest on the sides, I think. These things are also designed to fight other battleships, do recall..."

Half of them are shot down. The remainder do some rather serious damage to the surface of the deck, but no critical hits. You are now out of rockets with no way to resupply. I don't know what you expected. At least you can still provide chaff cover for your allies. Speaking of, that stuff is starting to wear off.

The fusillade of rockets are devastatingly effective, but the slow-moving warthog is an easy target for the LAMS recovering from chaff-blindness.

This shot is physically impossible. There is a bridge and another gun in the way, so you can't approach it from the rear and hit it.

: Did you not see that mirror trick? Even if this thing is immobile, it might be able to bombard the allied fleet from where it's floating. We need to sink this thing. Dead in the water isn't good enough. Talisman has the right idea. The bow has a low concentration of AA, approaching it isn't as dangerous.

"Except going through the deck isn't going to do stuff other than stop it. And knowing the Zents, they'll probably have it back up and running within a day."
I fire off another JSM and empty my FEAR pod, jettisoning the empty rocket pod, and breaking off.

Mulligan. Same thing except I fire at the rear battery.

"Going for the front again." Bell swings back around the front again, launching another two salvos of RL-20s at the severely damaged gun batteries before shooting the bridge with her main cannon and a salvo of FEAR-12 rockets. She deploys chaff in the process, breaking off after she is satisfied with the amount of cannon rounds she put into the ship.

updated the previous post to reflect that through either sheer luck or a gift from the gods, the AGM manages to penetrate the armor on the turret and destroy it

I seed another cloud of chaff.

"I'm out, I'll start seeding chaff for your runs."

you didnt include my post's actions, qwepir

"Look, my point is that I don't think we have enough to sink this thing, and following Talisman's logic we could expect its return- with new guns- soon after. If we kill the engine, we have time to get more allied air-power to finish it off. We could probably jam the turrets and only then focus on its mobility, though, if you insist. As for the mirror beam... why don't we shoot down the mirror?"

I approach it from the front and fire the rest of my rocket pods at the front of the bridge, specifically where there is a concentration of anti air, and fire my coaxials at the remaining turrets.
