NAUC and the Huits both have to put up with cost-saving, poor-quality stuff both on and off the field, and apocalyptic bowel-related aftermath is a common result of eating said "food". Huit rations are so terrible that it's not uncommon for them to use their rations to try to bait local wildlife to catch and eat instead.
Kintharian rations are a step up and won't give you the stuffs but they're still very bland and boring.
In Mercana, they serve their troops real food on-base because they can actually afford to (Mercanan food is very spice-heavy, basically think of their food as Indian or Middle-Eastern). Field rations are cheaper, but leagues ahead of what everyone else has to deal with.
Imperial base food is actual food as well, but their field rations are literally nutrient paste carried in a pouch on your back that you drink with a tube.
