I grab the TV's remote and start searching for Gladiator Crashers again.

You get only about five seconds of it before it switches to Skeleton Man again.

not pictured: bell leaving the room to get the plane painted with grey splinter scheme like her old PAK FA

The hangar containing the Shinden has a few Kintharian technicians working on the aircraft when you walk in. The aircraft still retains the colors of the squadron its pilot belonged to, a solid white with thin red lines accentuating its curves. It even still has the Raiden flight insignia painted on each tail fin. A few of the techs are in a discussion next to what appears to be a paint sander, and even past the language barrier, the subject of debate is obvious.

"[Sabotage? I hadn't considered that...]"
I keep reading.

: [Well... the official reports say that the aircraft's ejection malfunctioned and not all of the bolts fired, so the canopy didn't clear. Then it can be assumed that Guerra was fired into the canopy and broke his neck. But, as you know, there's generally failsafes against that sort of thing, so dying like that generally isn't just some accident.]
: ['Course, might just be a problem with repairs being screwed since the head techie died.]

the failsafe is an extremely durable seat that smashes the canopy so the pilot doesn't have to

if the pilot's neck gets broken thanks to the canopy, there was blatant sabotage

i think kinths would figure that out

"[The techs are good at what they do. They wouldn't miss something like that.]"

should have just rigged the gun to malfunction and blow up instead

: [Feh. Doesn't matter to me whether he was killed in an accident or as an act of vengeance. I'm pretty damn satisfied that starfish is dead after what he did. Can't imagine I'm the only one with that sentiment.]
: [...Personally I would've preferred that he sought help, but...]

Catastrophic engine failure probably would have been a better bet. Ya know, the explosive kind. That or ordnance detonation in-rack.

I shoot the man who tampered with the TV a glance.

"What did you do to the TV?" I ask, annoyed.

i would just put lots of solid rocket fuel in the ejection mechanisms and poke holes in the ejector rocket nozzles

attempt to eject, pop goes the guerra

Mostly against small arms fire and shrapnel. However the Glass canopy itself does not protect against much.

Enter the K-22 Raven--the world's one-and-only straight-winged interceptor in production, conceived by a peculiar mixture of uncanny genius, eccentric research, dogged philosophical adherence and senseless design bureau politics that only Mercana could possibly concoct. The documents on hand detail quite a few things about the aircraft in question: the development history, specificities regarding its unusual wing configuration, its impressive combat record... There's even a goofy little segment on civilian-spun conspiracy theories describing the K-22 as proof that Mercana is currently fighting a war with extraterrestials.

I return the folder to its space and head over to the administration. The requisitions officer points out that there is no K-22 available on base for me to pilot. I ask if it's possible to have one transported to McNamara.

Even though its pitch/roll rates are terrible and the radar/IR signature suffers tremendously in wet burn, I'm fairly positive there's a niche in our formation that only the Raven can fill.
