"Major Richard Geary, reporting for debrief, sir." He briefly salutes before producing the documents on hand. "I've completed writing the operations report for mission No. 4607, ready for evaluation."
: Right. Just leave it on my desk. Looks like you all made it back, so it must not have been that bad.

I give up on trying to read the backwards-ass system of moon-runes that is Mercanan and toss the manual into my Razorback's roosterpit, then head over to the barracks to shower and change out of this damned flight suit.
"[Ark's exhaust, I hate Mercanan.]"
Once showered and dressed, I head over to the mess, to see what sort of bugs they're serving today. Can't be that bad, can it?

.لدينا فقط عيب يجري قليلا أقل تقدما من أي شخص آخر، باستثناء بلد معين

I assume it's something relatively close to Arabic writing. I doubt they're still using hieroglyphics.

kintharian is right to left too
the whole "moon runes" part is the part that yui's having trouble with

Mercanan is brown townogous to Arabic
Kintharian is brown townogous to Chinese/Japanese/Kanji/whatever
Gothic, Aesthian, and Huitzitlaotani is brown townogous to the Latin alphabet. Aesthia and the Delta had their own written scripts way the forget back, but they were runic/pictographic in nature. Contact with the Imperium (subjugation in Aesthia's case, trade in the Delta's) caused the Gothic alphabet to rub off on them, and they gradually switched over to it for day-to-day use. The old systems weren't completely stamped out, though, they just aren't going to be seen on road signs/billboards/legal documents/etc.

North Aesthian Conservative Party: Bring back runes!

"Strictly speaking, it wasn't, not for us. I can't say the same for the Mercanans."

Richard lays down the report on the table and gently pushes it forward.

"Their entire flight was destroyed instantaneously," he states flatly. "We would've suffered a similar fate had it not been for AWACS support."

: Did they now? What the hell happened?

"A plot device sir! None like i've ever seen before!"

"Upon their arrival at the third radar installation, the Razorbacks were confronted by a gunship with four Sabres in tow. The gunship fired an exceptionally large missile salvo at the flight and completely overwhelmed them. We were about thirty seconds behind the Mercanans when we witnessed the attack."

Jaakko stays on the floor and takes a breath. Reality comes back to him. His body returns to its exhausted state.

"That loving thing was on my bed. I didn't see it at first, so I jumped on my bed. That bastard was under my back. It tried to bite me and it severed a shoestring,"

Jaakko looks at Tippy's tanker boots, with their straps on the place of strings.

Tippy suddenly snaps back to her own reality from staring at jaakko stupified and quickly realizes her headgear is missing.

"right uh sorry hold on lemme get something."

Tippy stands up and rushes into her room, jaakko could hear the frantic shuffling on the inside. Tippy exits the room with her helmet now back on her head. The familiar visage of an isolated Tippy was once more present.
