Gus holds his gaze, expressionless.
"You'll see what I mean."
His jaw muscles move for a moment before he resumes eating.
Almost on cue, Virvel walks up to the group, bouncing her fist off the table and pointing around at the Kintharians.

: Hey, how many of those fancy VR helmets did you guys bring anyway?

: Ten, why?

: Oh, just curious.
She walks over to where Eremit's sitting, sneaking up behind him and snatching the book from his hands to get his attention. Nobody's closeby enough to hear the conversation that follows.
"Time for another donut.."
Ellie banks the plane back towards the customized Superflanker as fast as she can and starts firing the cannon at it, lining up the sights a few milliseconds into the burst. She also fires off abother AAM + JSM combination for what that's worth.

: That's not good. Thaaat's not good. Yeah. Yup. Think I might be toast.
He doesn't seem aware that the simulation hasn't marked him off as "dead" yet, and has just sort of given up.

also, this round of combat sort of gave me an idea
what would you people think about an additional weapon range being added for "point blank" (it wouldnt be so much of an additional range as much as gun range divided up between "you can use your guns without penalty" and "you can use your guns with a bonus")
i'm thinking guns could have increased chance to hit (like, maybe +20 or so?) and missiles would have a reduced chance (HSMs and JSMs -10, AAMs -5, and RGMs completely unusable), but you would have to make an unchallenged (which means you're only testing against your own EV, not against your opponent) maneuvering check to see if you can actually point the plane in the right direction before you make the shooting test
itd make supermaneuverable planes downright scary in a gunfight, thats for damn sure
