"Allow me to make abundantly clear, that due to the nature of the assault pods, they must take the airship because there is no way to abort once they are on board. Failure to secure the airship means death for the assault team," he says.

"Let's not have another Kirizian Desert," he orders.

"Why are you three piloting the airship home? I would think there would be more suitable pilots for the task than three veteran air aces."
Gus folds his arms and frowns.

: I hope you aren't insinuating that the responsibility of piloting an airship should be left to the jarheads.

"No, but I would assume somewhere amongst the NAUC, Mercanan and Kintharian airforces there are airship pilots who would be more suitable for the job - that is to say, not 60% of a formidable ace squadron."

Gus takes a breath to start again before stopping, thinking and clarifying.

"It seems an unnecessary risk of vital personnel."

Something on the edge of his consciousness convinces him there is information being withheld.

Gus takes a breath to start again before stopping, thinking and clarifying.

"It seems an unnecessary risk of vital personnel."

Something on the edge of his consciousness convinces him there is information being withheld.

: Our first choice was an airship crew, but we were informed by the higher ups that the differences between how Aesthian and Gothic cruisers operate is enough that they would have had to undergo the same training we did. In the end, it was considered less logistically complex to just send us. That's what they said, anyway. It could just be that airship crew are considered more vital than fighter pilots.

Gus mulls over what was said for a moment before responding.

"We certainly do have a backwards way of doing things."

He isn't convinced, but the possibility of any of them knowing seems to be off the table. This particular oddity raises other questions in regards to the mission - why are three full ace squadrons being deployed for a relatively simple task? Why does a sky cruiser warrant the deployment of such extensive assets? Gus eyes the rest of the pilots in the room to see of they had also considered these things strange.

: Because it needs to succeed. We've never been able to get our hands on an Imperial air cruiser intact. This is kind of a big deal, because pound for pound... well, they're just better. They're slower, yes, but once they get on the field we can't compete. Outproducing your opponent is viable with tanks and infantry, but we're talking about multi-billion dollar airships here. Knowing exactly how their ships function could go a long way in developing a countermeasure that can level the playing field, or better yet, turn it in our favor.
