The bus comes to an abrupt halt with a slight screech, as if a force other than its brakes had taken a hold of the vehicle. This jarred Ash from his sleep, a sleep that he hadn't managed to obtain for quite some time. He couldn't decide whether being awake was a curse or a blessing but whatever it is, he's awake to deal with it.
Ash stood up from his flaking vinyl bus seat and slung his pack over his shoulder. He brushed the crumbs from a fast food sandwich he had consumed earlier in a hungered frenzy and stretched his legs.
"Hurry your ass off Ash, i don't have forever." The bus driver said, sternly looking at him from a turned position in his seat.
Ash prolonged his stretch just a little longer and finally graced the front of the bus with a casual walk forward.
"I've been on your bus almost a hundred times and yet i still can't make a friend out of you, Slick." Ash says grinning from behind his sarcasm.
The bus driver sighs and pulls the lever, making the bus door screech open. He looks at ash and gives him a concerned look.
"Don't make this your last trip on my bus either... and don't call me Slick."
Ash laughs and steps off the bus, his boots meeting the asphalt of the base. The bus doors behind him squawked back into position and the bus drove off, bellowing a thick smoke behind it. Ash tightens his grip on his pack and steps into the small office where he was dropped off at to sign in. An officer, a little younger than him operated the desk there to receive and log newcomers.
Ash steps forward and clears his throat.
"Hey there champ. Here's my paperwork... I was transferred here a little while ago. It should be in the computer."
Ash provides his Military ID to the man behind the desk.
