"Oh, that's nice," she says, smiling. "How are they doing?"

Yui thinks about piping up and saying she's not dead, but doesn't. Still feeling like utter garbage because of her earlier conversation with Frisk, not to mention the burns, she decides to try to strike up a conversation with Walter, hoping she'll feel something other than self-loathing.
"So... what exactly happened on this one, Walt?"

: Lucky you, huh? You know, we're one of the only nations that actually thinks to give our pilots some degree of body armor. If you were a Mercanan or a Kintharian, you'd probably be dead.

"Yeah, I'm still in one piece. On the topic of armour I miss the shikra already, I imagine the canopy on that thing wouldn't let a laser through to hit me. Wouldn't be surprised if that research facility scrapped it with the state I left it in."

Yui thinks about piping up and saying she's not dead, but doesn't. Still feeling like utter garbage because she's been shot down six times, she decides to try to strike up a conversation with Walter, hoping she'll feel better.
"So... what exactly happened on this one, Walt?"

"I destroyed four aircraft, and got shot. Aside from that to bluntly break it to you Roger won't be coming back anytime soon."

He pauses to look for a clock in the room and check the time

"I saw Matsumoto eject, but things sounded a bit grim when I was dazed from being hit-  I think they left her in the streets."

"Oh ni- oh, f- wait, what? What the hell happened? Why did you leave her? Did anyone call CSAR?"

Jaakko notices Tippy far ahead of him, but is too exhausted to call or run after her, or so he tells himself. He continues his march, trudging to the crew rooms, pilot bag in fist, helmet held by the chin. His harness jingles from time to time.

Its too much like Taiton, he reasons. He remembers Gantevir, the first squadron he was assigned to some three or four months before Taiton. One that was less than a year old, in fact. Jaakko remembers the FOB airbase hastily constructed in the deserts outside Taiton, an insufferable, hellish construction of sand and rock, prefab buildings, plywood constructions, it's single short runway, concrete barriers made into bunkers in the case of shelling.

Jaakko remembers the personnel. Embittered veterans who would not associate with him, bitter from being moved around to create new squadrons, weary of getting close to the new guy. He remembers the 'veterans,' men and women who had been new at the time the squadron was created. They looked down on new arrivals for no reason in particular, he recalls.

He remembers the hazing and infighting. Jaakko makes the connection between his experiences and Eremit's.

He remembers the first night they were briefed on their operations for the week leading into the Battle of Taiton. Surge operations, two sorties a day, for almost a week.

That's how Svirask feels.

Gantevir would lose so many personnel that it would be disbanded, and it's only survivors immediately moved to the closest squadron, Mjolnir.

It feels like Taiton.

Jaakko finds himself before the door of the barracks, mistakenly. He gets through the door and trudges towards his room to collect his things to clean up. He glances at Ellie and an unfamiliar face, but being out of it, doesn't react. He looks upset.

"I don't know, I was too busy trying to find if I had a hole in my chest and where to land to be listening fully."

"I- that's... fair, I guess. I... I hope they find her alive. Also, what happened to Whiskey? Was he...?"
Yui doesn't finish the sentence, feeling no need to state the obvious.

Ash shows his hand for a shake

"Hellooo there Lieutenant. Names Ash. And this place certainly isn't antsville at the moment is it?"
A low-pitched voice comes from the corner of the barracks.
"I suppose not."

Faw is sitting at a desk, staring at a laptop screen. Without looking up from the computer, Faw introduces himself.
"Welcome, Lieutenant Ash Zaman, to the 514th. I'm Captain Simon Faw."

He turns his head and takes a look at Ash.
"If you'd like, I could direct you to your quarters."

Jaakko finds himself before the door of the barracks, mistakenly. He gets through the door and trudges towards his room to collect his things to clean up. He glances at Ellie and an unfamiliar face, but being out of it, doesn't react.
Ash awkwardly retracts his handshake but quickly regains his demeanor. He winks at Ellie.

"Hate to agitate the gravel babe but we'll catch up. Might be best to get the rest of the introductions with everyone off my plate first so i don't seem like a cube."

Ash turns to Faw and steps forward.

"Nice to meet you, Captain. I'm fresh off the hound but I'm already glad to meet someone who has the jets. And sure, i've been meaning to hit a bunk."

He turns his head towards jaakko who seemed to be staring.

"Hey there. I'm Ash."

Jaakko looks to the newcomer. He looks agitated, but he tries to look receptive. He can't fake it though, and ends up looking displeased or unimpressed.

"Major Kirves," he replies, his voice worn from yelling earlier, "Just get here?"

"I- that's... fair, I guess. I... I hope they find her alive. Also, what happened to Whiskey? Was he...?"
Yui doesn't finish the sentence, feeling no need to state the obvious.

"Yeah, I never really talked to him so I don't know what else to say."

Ash nods

"My transfer was suppose to let me make the scene earlier but it was on delay. Just glad to get out of Nowheresville and make the 514th. Good to meet you, Major."

Ash offers a handshake.

"Same here. I can't imagine how Tippy feels, though."

: Yes, it is.

"Ah. Alright."

Lorens breaks eye contact for a moment, gathering his thoughts.

"Could you... also mentor me, in BFM and radar operation? I really hate to ask such a huge favor from someone I've probably only met for the first time, but... This is really important to me."

He meets the Kommandant's stoic gaze with his own, maintaining a resolute expression.

: Sure, just tell me when you want to get this done and I'll see if I can work something out.

"Oh, that's nice," she says, smiling. "How are they doing?"
: They're closer to being out of debt than they were a few days ago.

He shrugs and lifts his mask up a bit to start eating from a Gothic ration pouch.
