"[You can do this! Take a breath, and fire what you have left at him. He's disabled, so he'll be an easy kill. Do it for your friends.]"

"[You can do this! Take a breath, and fire what you have left at him. He's disabled, so he'll be an easy kill.]"
Markus falls back to gun range.
The rookie turns the trainer around and prematurely fires two missiles before they can even attain a lock.
: [stuff! stuff!]

Another burst missile goes off dangerously close, and you feel the turbulence left in its wake.

"[Take a breath, rookie! You can do this!]"
Markus takes aim and fires his LCP.

The laser beams hit nothing but air, but you adjust your aim for another shot, two missiles strike Tempest's plane. For a split second you see the flaming fuselage remnants spiraling downwards before they too are engulfed in a violent secondary detonation.

"[Hell yes, rookie! Form up on me and let's get the forget back to the carrier! Speaking of which, what's your name?]"
Markus forms up close to the rookie to avoid burst missiles.

"[Hell yes, rookie! Form up on me and let's get the forget back to the carrier! Speaking of which, what's your name?]"
Markus forms up close to the rookie to avoid burst missiles.
: [I'm- I'm not going to the carrier. I launched from Citadel Cypristar fish. I'm not... totally sure where-]
: [We'll guide the Weizhskilde pilots home, Auxiliary. Return to your squadron.]

"[Copy.]"
Markus begins catching up with his squadron, fully expecting an ass-chewing from Crash on return.

Both Mjolnir and the Auxliary Squadron land on their respective carriers as the sun begins to sink below the horizon, with Scorch arriving several minutes after the rest.

Aboard the Blixtkrig, the debriefing officer is more than displeased with the results of the engagement.
NAUC Defeat
: Mjolnir and Draugur- the two squadrons with the highest kill counts in the entire coalition- fought off by a pathetic assemblage of traitors and cadets who haven't even received their flying wings yet!? What the hell were you doing up there? We may as well pack up and go home if this is the kind of showing our best have to give!

The officer singles out the four surviving non-Draugur, non-Mjolnir pilots.
: You four. You're with Draugur now. He's your new squadron lead. Maybe you'll be of at least some use to us now. And you people-

He points at Bell and the rest of Mjolnir.
: You're already in hot water, what with half your unit going over to the enemy side. Drop the ball again and it's gonna be crystal forgetin' clear where your loyalties lie. Don't screw up again.

You are dismissed and permitted some downtime until your planes can be fixed up enough to put you back in the air. Gaffe has returned and meets Bell, Ellie, and Lorens on the hangar deck. The surviving Draugur pilot is sitting against the hangar wall near the entrance to the mess hall.

The Auxiliaries' post-battle appraisal is far from positive as well.
Imperial Defeat
: While you did ultimately repulse the Aesthian fighter assault, it came at a dire cost. Sixty percent casualties from a routine interception falls significantly beyond what we consider acceptable losses. The Andromeda is currently withdrawing under heavy attack, and as we were unable to retask your formation to deal with the threat sooner, its prospects of survival are slim. Get some rest while you can, we need you to do better next time.

You are each handed a ration stub and dismissed, gathering on the hangar deck nearby some of Paladius' students. Xiaomei and Yamashiro are standing on one of the deck's external walkways having a smoke, Paladius himself and another rookie standing a cautious distance away from them leaning against the railing. Musashi and Nagato have gone to get food, and I'm sorry Badger but before you ask Ulrich is deployed.

Walter heads to the imperial Messhall to get his ration and looks for familiar faces in the sea of imperial uniforms, he eventually spots the Kintharian uniforms sticking out and heads over to them.

Bell stares off into the distance for a few moments before giving Gaffe a greeting.

: Hey, welcome back. I wish I had some better news, but that last mission didn't go well at all.

The officer just rubs her face with her hands before motioning at the other Mjolnir pilots.

: Anyways, how about getting something to eat?

Gaffe puts on a nervous smile.

"Yeah, I'm getting pretty starved right now."

He starts to head towards the mess hall.

Markus goes to get some food, joining Raiden at their table.

Jaakko is burdened by the weight of the day. He is not hungry, and is withdrawn from the outside world. He doesn't feel like he belong. He is surrounded by Goths, speaking in a garbled and indecipherable tounge. It could easily be a nightmare, as bizarre as it all was and as removed from the situation he feels. Anxiety is burning a hole in his stomach. That was common in nightmares too, right?

He pockets the stub and avoids the Imperials roving about the deck.

The day's events jump-cut around. Just like a nightmare! Except that he knew, consciously, he wouldn't wake up, but some part of him kept asking if he would wake up after all. All experience all memory had been condensed into just two new chapters of Jaakko's life, that is before defecting, full of simplicties and blissful ignorance, and after defecting, full of anxiety and contorted feelings.

He picks out Yamashiro and Xiaomei on the deck. He can't decide whether the Kintharians feel like Imperials or if they are in fact familiar faces. He slinks towards them, he would probably feel less uncomfortable around them. He glances at them for a split second. They had to be different people, that's what they felt like after all. They weren't the same Raiden, they were a knockoff Raiden that would only exist in a nightmare.

Jaakko makes it to the railing within earshot of Yamashiro and Xiaomei. He can't make up his mind on whether or not to talk to them, or whether they would talk with him.

He looks at the landscape, then to his hands, and find that they are shaking some. Was it fatigue? Anxiety? Jaakko wonders.

He glances uncomfortably at the two Kintharians, for a split second.

What is there to talk about even if he felt like he could talk? Jaakko draws a blank. He stares at his hand, but pays it no mind, rather listening to Yamashiro and Xiaomei, even if he could only pick out obscenities and a couple common words.

It is outwardly apparent Jaakko doesn't feel well.

He starts to head towards the mess hall.
The Draugur pilot mutters to himself as he carves something into his helmet visor with a utility knife, but makes no effort to engage either of you in conversation.

Walking past the recruits, you notice them talking and occasionally casting a paranoid glance your way. Only the gods know what sorts of nasty things they're saying behind your back.
: [Hey Theo, did you hear? PTX subbed episodes 12-16 of Grand Convoy Jericho already, they're up on their site.]
: [Oh, for real? That's the cave arc, right? With the mutant colony? That was a really talky couple of episodes, I'm surprised they're up already.]
: [I don't believe you two! The entire Aesthian aerial fleet is out there trying to kill us and all you can think about is bootlegged Kintharian cartoons?]
: [So what? It's a nice distraction from you moping about how we're all gonna die in a few days or hours or whatever you've whittled it down to now. Mind your own business.]
: [It is my business! If you went to that site on the carrier again, you're gonna lose terminal privileges for all of us!]

oh right, and Scorch. Scorch knows.

He eventually spots the Kintharian uniforms sticking out and heads over to them.
The Imperial mess hall is rather different in one major way from what you're used to on Aesthian carriers and bases. A few long tables span across almost the entire breadth of the room, and rather than individual chairs each table has two equally long benches attached to them. You both spot the Kintharians' white uniforms almost instantly. Nagato greets you with a mumble and scoots aside to make room for you.
: You survived too, Walter? That's good, I hear around half of the force didn't make it back.

Jaakko makes it to the railing within earshot of Yamashiro and Xiaomei. He can't make up his mind on whether or not to talk to them, or whether they would talk with him.

Xiaomei and Yamashiro notice you and stop talking among themselves.
: Crash. I think we may have gotten off on the wrong foot here, earlier. We were under the impression-

She subtly gestures towards Xiaomei with her head. Xiaomei notices anyway and rolls her eyes.
: -that there was no chance you and your squad were going to listen to reason. I'm sorry we came out swinging and trying to kill you.

Walter begins speaking as he seats himself down

"Without a scratch too, oddly. Yeah, we pushed them off but it wasn't much of a victory... felt like that gave them more of an upper hand."

Walter begins to open his ration as he thinks and takes a short glimpse around

"Kind of late, but thanks for giving us the option to choose sides. I was skeptical of Tarkirov's plan in the first place but couldn't do anything about it."
