Ash makes his own grimace at the thought of nuclear warfare between the two countries. Trying to not let the gravity of the situation burden him, he refocuses on the mission, noting that the cruiser has just launched a set of surface-to-air missiles.

"Brynhildr, this is Blackeye, I see you've fired two SAMs. I assume you are attacking the Flankers?," Ash queries, unaware his own brother is on the receiving end of one of those missiles.

Further North, Lorens feels his temple veins pulsate to the chirp of the warning receiver as he counts how many seconds have elapsed since he first heard the missile approach warning. In an instant, he increases power and dips down before pulling back up into an evasive loop, releasing two chaff packets throughout the maneuver.

: More than just flankers, we see ten craft in total. One Wyvern, one Shiva... multiple different classes of aircraft.

As the captain talks, the planes in question come into view at missile range.

"They've got a numbers and tech advantage. The Brynhildr isn't exactly helping us either."

He pauses and sighs.

"These odds aren't very comforting."

Markus's blood runs cold. He switches the weapons selector to his AAMs.

He adjusts his heading to take aim at the Fulcrum, and switches his radio to open comms.

Lorens pitches back into level flight a little ways behind the rest of the group. He regains his senses in time to hear Markus' voice over the communications channel. By Ark, it's them.

"... SAM trashed. Confirmed nails at 12 o'clock, six miles. There's our escort. I don't know if I can stay away from the fast-movers, but I'll try to get some distance from the cruiser and circle around. Snowman, turning hard right."

The Shiva banks and enters a steep turn to put the cruiser at his 8 o'clock. He rolls out and stays his course for the time being, checking his shoulders to see if anyone is pursuing him.

Ash clenches the controls. He feels a weight in the pit of his stomach as Walter declares the Shiva his target. Beholden to his mission under the threat of nuclear armageddon, he presses forward and selects a target of his own.

"I have tally on that Wyvern," Ash calls out, "Blackeye, engaging offensive at angels thirty." He primes the all-aspect seekers and places the bandit under the diamond.
