lets just be clear there is no such thing as true/false happiness. idk what weird definition youre trying to get across here. all happiness is real happiness. theres pretending to be happy, and there is actually being happy. alcohol doesnt make you pretend. people consume alcohol to feel better within that period of time before the effects wear off. its real happiness caused by real chemical reactions in your brain/body. just because you return back to your sad self afterwards doesnt mean you didnt experience real happiness. (insert some nerd scientist stuff about chemical reactions here)
There is such a thing as true happiness, it's happiness felt without needing to physically alter your mind's mechanisms.

The other kind of happiness I'd classify as artificial

... perhaps a better term to have used from the start is artificial happiness, it would be less subjective.

no such thing as happiness felt without needing to physically alter your mind's mechanisms. its pretty much how all emotions work. chemical reactions are just as physical as you and me and alter how you feel or react or how your mind functions. love turns you dumb, alcohol turns you dumb(on a greater scale), they both create happiness for you, is the happiness caused by both artificial because they alert your mind's mechanisms? of course not. love's happiness isnt any more natural or artificial than alcohol's happiness. mind mechanisms get altered by emotions

artificial
ɑːtɪˈfɪʃ(ə)l/
adjective
1.
made or produced by human beings rather than occurring naturally, especially as a copy of something natural.

Happiness by alcohol consumption is MADE by humans, love occurs naturally.

as someone who's on antidepressants that are supposed to be functional, I can say that the distinction between "real" happiness and "artificial" happiness is relatively arbitrary if it even exists at all. that said, happiness not coming from drugs/alcohol/medications seems nicer to me personally, but it's not a common thing in my life so i probably just notice more

Happiness vs Pleasure

Why the hell are most of the american teens on anti-depressants? Maybe "most" is too generalized but 1 out of 2 american teens I meet are drinking some sort of medication not related to any physical harm.

Depression in the first world seems like a major issue. I don't know why, but people are generally not happy compared to say third world populations.

thats debatable. anyway i see now what youre actually trying to say. youre referring to the sources they come from. well they both cause very similar physical reactions inside your brain, leading to the same emotion -> happiness. this emotion cannot be artificial because youre actually experiencing it. it might have been from an "artificial" source, but it is most certainly not an artificial emotion. there is no such thing as artificial emotions. they are all the same emotions caused by different things whether those different things are natural or not.

it's an issue everywhere. but when you stop having things kill you young like disease, you start having things kill you old like depression. it's just a matter of priorities.

technically the stuff i'm on is so that i don't lie awake freaking out at random stuff that shouldn't even matter.
it works.

aint got no time to worry about depression when you're not sure if you got enough food for the week.

One could argue that since it comes from an artificial source, that the feeling is also artificial in itself.

yes but it cant be because whats the difference between an "artificial" emotion and a natural one? ive been living for quiet a while and as a certified human being i can say ive never noticed an emotion that can have two sides to it. if it does feel different, its a different emotion, not an artificial side to the same one. the chemical reactions that produce the feeling are the exact same ones whether the source is natural or not

Wait... But in alcohol consumption the alcohol is one the chemical that works in your mind to make you feel happy...

Also, take a lamp for example. The lamp produces light. Now light is light whether it's produced from the sun or by the lamp, except we call the light produced by the sun natural lighting and we call the light produced by the lamp artificial lighting.

I've never suffered depression. It's really confusing to me, almost to the point I think people with depression stuff are mentally insane. Like yeah I understand stuff being sad and stuff but I usually get over it in a day or two. I'm probably less sensitive than most people.

The alcohol shuts down your mind. It doesn't make you happier or pleasured. It just turns off parts of your brain that wake you worry. Swallow an entire bottle and most if not all of the parts of your brain shut down. Think of your brain as a circuit breaker box. If you slowly start drinking glasses of alcohol, it will slowly start turning off the breakers. Drink an entire bottle in one go without having eaten and, instead of it being one or two fingers lowering one or two breakers, it's an entire hand lowering most of the box at once.
