Author Topic: Civilization is a cheating sack of stuff  (Read 1573 times)

So I am not even on that difficult of a setting, have all the cities maxed out, pretty much own my continent and am researching tech at a super rate with so much left over production im pumpin out soldiers. Suddenly I am greeted by the countries from overseas whom had achieved caravels before me somehow... oh wait its not just that, they are an entire two eras in techs ahead of me and instantly start finishing every wonder I had in production before I can. Well stuff I guess I have to now focus more on tech somehow, lolnope actually I have to divert all my resources into more soldiers since ghengis kahn decided to hack a few dozen riflemen for an invasion force when they were behind me in tech the whole damn game.

And yet I keep playing this game....

Post your cheating computer experiences here so we can all vent our frustration over poorly balanced AI-handicaps and the like.

That can happen if you spawn in the Tundra or they spawned near a lot of Jungle Tiles.

There have been a few games where I've reached all the late game stuff such as Paratroopers and Rocket Artillery and the other guys have barely gotten even into WW1/2 era stuff yet, because I was surrounded by oodles of jungles for the extra science.

They AI only cheat on difficulties higher than normal.
If you where at or lower than normal they may be ahead of you because they had a really good start or you had a really bad start.
It could also be because you where making bad decisions.

I'm currently in a game and currently conquering the "superpower" William with my poor tiny friend Russia who was conquered, I took his capitol but still like 12 cities left.

But in early game they finished a lot of wonders before me then I caught up and they're still in the WW1/WW2 era while im getting lasers

i recently started getting in to civ and i started out in east asia near vietnam
my capital is currently pumping out 600+ science

I have an NFS game on the wii, Need For Speed Undercover or something like that. There are several racing modes that you can use to progress through the storyline, and one is called "Outrun." Basically you have to get 100 meters (Might have been 200 or 300, or 500, idk for sure its been a long time) from the opponent and then you win. Buuuut, later on, the AI turns to a cheating piece of stuff.

So I was trying to beat the AI in an outrun challenge, one of the hardest ones there was. My car can go up to like 200-300KM/hr, and the opponents car can regularly go a similar speed. I had lured them into a crash, and as I was speeding away, as soon as it got to the point where I was about to win, the AI speed up by an incredible amount and hit me head-on. How do I know it was cheating? Because I went flying at 800KM/hr and flew so far that I won. I checked the top speed of the AI that round, and it was 1,100KM/hr. CHEATING PIECE OF stuff DIDNT EVEN WIN

WHAT IS GOOD AI

basically any mario kart game will be full of the AI cheating

There's so many games that have cheated when I'm playing them that I can't remember 'em all. What I do remember is Starcraft; Basically if you did a new game vs the AI, they would get to start with some multiple of what you had, workers, resources, etc. Warcraft III also comes into this, but rather than resources and stuff they don't have a fog of war. Noticed this while watching replays, so I disabled mine to make it fair(er).

i can't say anything about civ being unfair
my austria game is wild

That moment when you're playing Destiny, and due to forgeted syncing issues, a monster kills you through a wall.

Bonus points if you're doing a Nightfall, as the last one alive.

Or what about Star Wars: Battlefront, where the AI are literally aimbots. I can't even beat the tutorial level.

Finally, that moment in any RPG game where an enemy has 0% chance to hit and hits anyway. forget you, (insert title of literally any Fire Emblem game).

I bothered looking up how exactly it was that Civ is cheating and found a good ol list so the enemy never gets health or happiness limiting their city growth, does in fact have the ability to instantly build troops, has no fog-of-war, moreover they can see undiscovered resources and plant cities accordingly. They are also able to instantly finish great wonders.

The earlier difficulties just add happiness and decrease tech research speed so I don't like playing on them. However even on the normal "Noble" difficulty, the game still cheats overly aggressively. The situation I was talking about actually happened on the easier difficulty than that. I usually like playing on Prince so the fact that I haven't even won a Noble game in a while due to ai shenanigans is starting to tick me off.
