Author Topic: How do you unplug things?  (Read 1188 times)

The question is as simple as it sounds. What action or sequence of actions do you take to remove detachable electronic contacts from detachable electronic contact receptacles?

Personally, I find that it helps to hold the plug with my index finger, place my thumb on the edge of the connection point, and flick it out of the socket. This works on virtually all connections, including ones with very little contact area and nothing to hold on to, as well as being easily executable with one hand.

How do you unplug things?

1. firmly grasp it
2. rip it out of the damn wall

Uhh.
First I turn off the plug socket.
Then I grab the plug, usually with one hand, holding it firmly on either side. Most traditional UK plugs have some form of area on the side designed for gripping.
Then I firmly pull it out.

If it's a bit difficult then give it a wobble until it comes out I suppose.

Is there all that much variation on this possible?

I forget it right in its pusillanimous individual.

How far am I from the socket?

If the answer is more than three feet or so, yank the cord at a 180 degree angle to the socket. If less, lean if necessary, grasp head of plug, pull directly away from socket.

First I turn off the plug socket.
what?

edit:
what the forget

well I kinda grab the tiny bit of cord that precedes the plug area

Turn off socket, grasp base of plug and pull it out.

what?

what the forget
Do US plug sockets not have switches??
That's crazy.

I know the UK plugs really are some of, if not are, the safest plugs in the world. But I kinda thought being able to turn off the Mains Supply before taking a plug out or sticking it in was a given everywhere.

me, being british, ask it to do so and it comes out. this applies to many other british things

you now see why our sockets > american ones

1. firmly grasp it
2. rip it out of the damn wall
FIRMLY GRASP IT

Here's the socket four feet to my right:

I've never had an issue without a switch. The buttons on it are breakers in case you draw too much power, it'll trip.

1. i magicly anchor the socket to the world
2. i use my incredible powers to move the whole entire building the socket is contained in
3. the socket is now detached completely from the wall and i forgot to unplug the device from it
4. realize my superior brain capacity and then jump off a cliff
