Author Topic: 2 ideas: Player Models and Radio (or remote MP3) music streaming  (Read 1085 times)

Yay, more ideas.

#1: Player Models
You know how Garry's Mod has player models? I thought something like this could be done in Blockland. I don't mean Player Types, those are different. It wouldn't be too complicated, maybe porting something like the minifigure from v0002, the ROBLOXian from ROBLOX (do not start stuff in this thread), or just other 3D type models. It wouldn't be too compliated, like Garry's Mod type 3D.

And #2: Radio Streaming
By Radio Streaming, I mean things like SHOUTcast or m3u files. It would be clientside or serverside (depends on whether or not the host wants to use this). I think serverside could be easily abused, however, so I'd say clientside would be more suitable.

It would work like: /startstream [radiourl], /stopstream [radiourl], /continuestream (plays the last stream you listened to), and if serverside, /broadcaststream [radiourl], or whatever the host is listening to.

These seem decent or possible?

i would actually use the player models

i don't think streaming audio is realistically possible in any reasonable form

it's realistically possible in many forms

like what

i mean like without external means since that's not really acceptable in a released mod

S&R. Suggestions to Badspot. Requests for add-ons.
This is possible to add to the engine.

Could potentially liven up servers without making people wait on several downloads, like the new years servers and such. Could also use it for sports and arenas, like having an announcer do an audio stream.

well obviously it could just be shoved into the engine lol

we're talking about realistically implementing it as an add-on

Custom player models are a thing, but if a server didn't have them there'd be no way to use them. They're also frankly kind of a pain to make for this game.
Streaming music won't happen, there are probably some really clunky ways that it could be attempted but I don't know if it'd really be worth the effort.

Literally anything is possible if Badspot decided to do it. That is a given, thus when someone says "it can't be done" they are obviously referring to outside of that context, ergo an add-on. Please, think before posting.

With the custom player models, I'm referring into a sense of TF2's MM plugin for SourceMod, or Model Manager.

How it would work:
Guy joins server with mod for selecting player models. While downloading, set of player models would be downloaded to client. Upon joining, player can type /pm, and choose a player model by GUI or text (whatever comes first). If addon downloading is disabled, a alert would say "Warning! You are missing models. Please enable the downloading of custom content to see other player models!" If the player does not oblige, you would just see regular models.

actually there is a robloxian playermodel but it's really poorly made, yet if someone could remake it, it would be fun

Whut?
