I've played it but honestly there's not too much updates. The only thing I can clearly see is the light rays is when you go to the "pick up that can" segment. Download CM2013 and remove the models (they suck.)

Update really picks up the slack Valve left when they didn't update HL2 for some reason. Looks completely on-par with any other Valve game.

Cm2013 textures are redone and so are the models. Only thing I don't like is the character models

Cinematic Mod changes the feel of the game too much in my opinion. I recently played Half Life 2: Update and it feels much better than the original.

Update is better if you like to keep the visual style of the original game. Cinematic if you want to make it feel more realistic in the aftermath of the combine. IMO I like the cinematic, but I'd remove the models and use the vanilla ones instead.

yeah if i remember correctly the cinematic mod made breen look like a flamboyant emo homoloveual who nobody understands

I like the combine models tho
