Author Topic: Do you believe in any kind of afterlife?  (Read 11887 times)

I'm a Christian and believe in heaven for all of those who accept Jesus Christ as their savior
I believe the ones who believe in Jesus as their Lord and savoir will enter the kingdom of God. Those who do not believe in him as your Lord and savoir will be damned to the depths of hell.
Agreed.

The problem with answering this question is that our perception and understanding of life, reality and physical phenomena is incredibly limited. God tells us plainly in His Word that Heaven and Hell do exist, and they are very real, actual places you go to after death. Our bodies are temporal, but our soul is eternal, and it has to go somewhere. Heaven and Hell are actual places that do exist, and Heaven from what I understand is just like it is here on earth, except it's perfect. Based on NDEs, it seems that there will be jobs, cities, businesses, etc. and life will be far greater. There will also be no sin or evil, and we will be in God's presence for eternity.

Also, God is not some evil dictator that is quick to find fault, judge people, condemn them, etc. He is patient, kind, joyful, and willingly suffered the hell we deserved in our place so that we could be free and spend eternity with Him in Heaven. If you want to have assurance of spending eternity with Him in Heaven, just seek Him until He saves you; accept His gift of salvation by repentance and faith - that's it. We get glimpses of Heaven and Hell here on earth. In fact, God tells us that we are not good people, we are a fallen race that needs to be saved. He doesn't tell us this in anger, but in love and mercy. We deserve to be in Hell right now, but due to God's infinite mercy, we are not. Every good thing we receive is a gift from God we don't deserve - it's a demonstration of His character and is a call to repent and come back to Him (as is every bad thing as well). All of the judgments recorded in the Bible are the result of evil people who refused to listen to God's calls to repent. God is long-suffering for each an everyone of us to repent, and He doesn't delight in condemning wicked people:

"Do you think that I like to see wicked people die? says the Sovereign LORD. Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live." (Ezekiel 18:23 NIV)

Nobody goes to Hell against their own will, they go there because they deny Jesus and His sacrifice for them on the cross; Jesus is the only way to be saved. God has to send people to Hell because He is just, and can't deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13). I think the main issue to be discussed is not whether there is life after death, but whether or not Scripture is true. Because if it is, and it is and there's countless evidence to support it's authenticity, then God reveals the answer to this and other issues. If anyone doubts Scriptures authenticity, look at future prophesies being fulfilled or in the process of being fulfilled right now:

Isaiah 17 regarding Syria (and Damascus) being completely destroyed (hasn't happened in the past yet but building up to it): http://www.nbcnews.com/video/nightly-news/52949730
Ezekiel 38-39: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ezekiel+38-39
Isaiah 19 already being fulfilled regarding the Lord frustrating Egypt's dream of a "great" ruler and democracy, and being handed over to a "cruel master" (i.e. fall of Gadaffi, overthrow of Morsi, etc.). Although, Egypt will be saved (Isaiah 19:25).
Psalm 83
And the prophesied rebirth of Israel in Ezekiel 37 long before it happened in 1948 (which has also never happened before esp. on that magnitude): http://www.grantjeffrey.com/pdf/JeffBIBLE-EzekVision2.pdf

I should probably bookmark this. I could never have explained it better myself.

azuritereaction had a really good talk about this on one of his videos, but i can't find it right now

he kept on getting 'game over' screens after repeatedly dying, and somehow got caught onto things like death and said something like what you believe in is what happens? i think. he said a bunch of things like 'it can be heaven if you believe in heaven, or it can be a blank loving screen just like this, just stuck on 'game over' forever, whatever you believe will happen"

he probably said something a lot more better than that, it's been a long time since i've seen it, but he had a pretty nice point

I believe that there is nothing after death and that the belief of god and heaven are only there to comfort people when a loved one has passed.
Not to say that I don't HOPE there is an afterlife though.

whoa, hey guys!

im a atheist
