What I'm curious about is why, the majority of you being from "Not Australia" are so caught up in this.

This country doesn't have a large proportion of anti-vaxxers, last I checked. They're not even a vocal minority. The current Liberal Government is aiming to garner sympathy points anywhere they can because they haven't done a single good thing while in power. And most Australians either don't care, or dislike it because it stops people having a choice (even though most go on to say "I still would get my kids vax'd though).

It affects barely anything. I'm amazed the Government is still paying the child support costs.

This is a bad argument in my mind for reasons other than "that's not a choice you should make"
The money they're losing isn't a direct fine, it's reduced welfare payments and it looks like also childcare-related tax credits; IMO you don't deserve money that's given to take care of children if you're not using it to take care of children

I know I had to get one or two to enroll at my high school as a sophomore. I don't really remember what I got though. I think I got a meningitis one, but that may have been earlier at around 13 years old. I know my DTaP (or TDaP, don't remember which is for my age) wasn't showing up on my shot record though, and I could've sworn to God I had gotten it because it was the last shot I remember sobbing about. I ended up not getting it again, either because of my persistence or my parents got the record from somewhere.

If your unvaccinated kid intentionally infects another kid then your kid has assaulted them which is a totally different crime. If your unvaccinated kid unintentionally infects another kid who sustains damage from the infection, you are technically culpable for that damage.

Compare it to drunk driving though. Tons of people drive drunk, and I'd bet that 0% of them are doing it in order to get in a fatal accident. So even though it's an accident when they do kill someone, they're still liable because they chose to put themselves into a scenario where they could cause someone else harm. Is that really all that different than abstaining from a vaccine?
