So, I'm on the Windows 8 Netflix app and want to watch a show.
Netflix decides to play the ambiance for the show, including music and all that stuff, but no words or lyrics are heard.

just go to the website if you want an easy solution. netflix apps always glitch up no matter on what device it is. just give it some time and it'll fix itself, that's what always happens.

That's an error on their end. This happened to me before.

The studio responsible for the TV show sends Netflix all of their audio along with the video, including audio with multiple channels. (Soundtracks, Special effects, character voices)

Netflix may have made an error while processing this data, to where you only hear one channel.

IIRC last time I used Netflix (mid-2014), the app offered more HD qualities. Not too sure now though.

the app has nothing to do with that lol...
apps and console versions and the such, are just stuffty workarounds for the real thing.

as is basically every smart phone app.... thats the point.

Actually I believe that they do do this because their DRM on apps is more effective than in the web-browser based version. I suppose they figured that they would give you only lower quality options to discourage ripping the video?
