Author Topic: Steam is allowing people to sell workshop content  (Read 20818 times)

Well whatever. My point still stands. Bethesda had no part in making the mods, so to base your review on game made by Bethesda, on the mods, is ridiculous.
maybe in 2011

but it's 2015. skyrim was released 4 years ago. i still really enjoy skyrim but mods are entirely what keeps people playing a single player, open world game.

They scrapped it because of backlash, but this is still paying for something that could have unforeseen consequences. It's not like the people who would pay for mods understand the implications of installing mods, possible conflictions, and how to resolve these issues mods can cause. Also this has had the effect on the quality of mods already. The Midas Magic free version had an advertisement system installed on a certain percentage chance every time you cast the higher level spells. If this stuff continues we'll have an appstore instead of a modding scene, and we've all seen how great the appstore is.
Buy 50 Midas Gems for only $4.99!!

This system is going to forget up the modding community. That isn't even a slippery slope argument, that stuff is already happening. That immersive fishing mod, art of the catch, was taken down due to copyright issues, wet & cold just got slapped with a  DCMA.
easy solution to this problem: don't use other people's content without their permission

the only types of mods that i would actually pay for would be game-changing things that add new features, new regions, and new playstyles

below: day 1 dlc effectively means that they are selling you an unfinished game and you have to pay to finish it

Games made for sake being bad to make memes, mobile games, day 1 dlc, now this.

is this english?

is this english?
y no hablas espansol de espana senior?

but for real, the state of gaming and modding seems pretty grim with all this stuff going on

the "other people's content" everyone is referring to is an animation framework mod that's commonly used for most things that have custom animations...

just because it's a mod for a video game doesn't mean it isn't subject to the same laws as everything else

"Fores New Idles in Skyrim" seems to be the animation framework you're talking about

the creator of that mod specifically said, at the bottom of the Nexus page for their mod, this:
Quote
The FNIS Behavior can only be downloaded and used in the described way. Without my express permission you are NOT ALLOWED
to upload FNIS Behavior TO ANY OTHER SITE
to distribute FNIS Behavior as part of another mod
to distribute modified versions of FNIS Behavior
to make money with files which are part of FNIS Behavior, or which are created with the help of FNIS Behavior

You can use and modify FNIS Idle Spells in any way that does not prevent running (the original) FNIS Idles Spells in its described way. Simply give credit, and inform me when you include it into your mod.

it doesn't matter if Some Dude Who Isn't A Lawyer But Works At Valve said that it would be okay

yes
an example would be goat simulator
don't forget I am bread and surgeon simulator

don't forget I am bread and surgeon simulator
i am bread is an actual game
don't compare it to goat simulator

i am bread has clear-ass objectives and stuff to do, and so does surgeon sim.  goat sim is just a playable sandbox stuffpost

You guys were 100% right
luckily it was in a sale

This is probably gonna end up like Youtube
Steam has barely any competition and the the competion they do have are big starfishs
Nobody wants to turn to a bigger starfish so they have no choice but to stay and get stuff thrown at their face all day
But the stuff they get thrown at their faces smells less bad so that's why they stay.
