Author Topic: late night rants with some cigarette - creepypasta cliches  (Read 1354 times)

now listen, i love a good creepypasta pretty often. some are made pretty well, then there are the others that just suck. horribly. to others, a masterpiece. to me, great. i personally find a LOT of them pretty nice.

but then there's the creepypastas that simply cliche to the max. and i will inform you on those cliches and why they are stuff and should not be appreciated.

1. file extension creepypastas
sonic.exe originally started this. you wanna know what happened next? people started loving using other extensions and ripoffs and made it into a whole loving ordeal of stuff. sally.exe, tails.exe, luna.exe, how hard is it to be loving original? and all of them? pretty much the same thing. oh man, this game has blood and gore using my FAVORITE VIDEO GAME CHARACTER OF ALL TIME, OH NO THEY'RE KILLING EVERYONE WHAT THE forget THIS IS HAUNTED WHY IS THERE stuff OUTSIDE MY WINDOW. learn to be original and stop using this stuff. it's not funny anymore or creative.

2. using blood and gore as a creepy intensifier.
now, this isn't bad in ALL CASES. sometimes if used PROPERLY it's fine. however, if you use it so bad it's painful, it's not good at all. take for example, blood whistle. it's a creepypasta that's so bad it's not even funny. it's a literal "stuffpasta". it uses blood almost every second of the entire creepypasta, and acts as if it's creepy. it also made it seem unrealistic for a SMB 3 creepypasta. i know it's a rom hack, but it can't be realistic. which brings me to #3...

3. insanely realistic features in insanely old games
if your video game creepypasta contains the following:
- hi def sounds in games ranging from NES, GBC, GB, or anything made near that era
- impossible effects to do in old games (shine effect on ground on NES games, too many colors, large color pallete)
- somehow switching to games the console wasn't even made for

please stop for a moment and rewrite that creepypasta because in no way will that work. and you may say, "BUT IT'S HAUNTED", i don't care. make it more realistic and make it seem like it'd be real, like in the BEN DROWNED creepypasta.

4. pointless backstories about the character
again, in some cases, this is good, like if it's about something that seems really real (1999 creepypasta. that's the actual name of it, 1999.). however, if it's some biography that lasts for more than 2 paragraphs, and in no way will this matter throughout the rest of the story, stop. this also applies to regular stories, but that's a rare case where it's a bad thing.

5. lost episodes
i hate them. i don't care what people say, i hate them. no one in their right loving mind would make a episode of the world of gumball where everything's forgeted up and people die and it's hyper realistic. it wouldn't happen. it may be a story, but i hate it and it's awful. and it most cases, it involves cliche #2 listed in this post. it's just insane to think some of those things would actually happen.

and 6. satanic mentions/overmentioning
why do I even need to explain this? satan isn't real people, christians made them up to make people do good deeds. i know this will get me controversy from a lot of people here, but it's annoying. please kill yourself if you use these unless you actually know how to do this properly. i don't know if I contradicted myself, pretty tired right now.

ok, i'm done ranting. i just hate it when people use these things in their stories or creepypastas or whatever the forget they use. i like well crafted, well written things. not garbage people write up in about 30 minutes.

you wanna read em/listen to GOOD ones? go ahead, here's a list of my favorites. not gonna bother linking them.
funnymouth, 1999, eric, necrosleep, the strangest security tape i've ever seen, polybius.

good night everyone and i'm going to pass out on my bed.

'my name is not important...'
but seriously i see most creepypastas with a lot of these and it's disappointing

also a list of OP's favorites for the lazy:
Funnymouth
1999
eric is kinda general, i'm finding a few of them
Necrosleep
The Strangest Security Tape I've Ever Seen
Polybius

One of the biggest rules of writing is to not overuse cliches, they break the suspension of belief. This has been common practice for longer than anyone here has been alive.
