Author Topic: Feminists Play Grand Theft Auto.  (Read 23300 times)

The English Language belongs to everyone. No individual, or group of people, gets to own a word and police who uses it.
And by the way, you're free to take offence (even on behalf of someone who isn't here and isn't currently taking offence), but everyone is still free to cause offence.
It's not even an argument that people are allowed to use offensive terms as long as they have mouths.

Literally does not mean anyone has to be accepting of someone who will say whatever they want.
honestly I don't see anyone that I know of being offended by that word, yes even my black friends.
they call each other that all the time and it doesn't phase any of them.
keyword being each other

ITT: People forget the fact that people constructed language, that language evolves over time depending on the context and that "offensive" words are JUST loving WORDS.

My God, it's like half of you would loving cry yourself to death if you stayed 10 minutes in Sydney. One of the few good things about this country is that people aren't bleeding from the mouth every time somebody says "cunt" or "brother".

Please continue to make discussions like these so I can add people to my "Sensitive Little Sunshines Who Need Constant Positive Reinforcement In The Face of 'Swearing' Danger" list.

It tickles me silly that there are people who think that words have a line that shouldn't be crossed.

Words are what's getting you riled up tho, lol.

If anything someone can type can evoke an emotional paragraph out of you about video games then obviously words have a significance.

So you're not affected by the word, but you're telling ZombiLoin when it is or isn't offensive???
dude im just repeating what actual black people have told me about their view on the word, and trust me this is a commonly held view.
Yes.
Where I live, what, you mean, modern society?
Hey, genius, just because someone doesn't agree with you? Yeah, that doesn't mean they're "edgy." You're the weird one here.
Try again.
Where do you live, Detroit or something?
More importantly, how am I supposed to take you seriously on this?
"Jeesh, kid, you're so edgy you make me look like a circle!"

(i couldnt find the original image of that quote but i recreated it so its ok)

oo stuff boi!!

What's getting my riled up is the butchering of language by sensitive petunias like you.

IT'S NOT THE WORDS THEMSELVES.

Read that over and over until you finally grasp that simple concept, because I know you need all the extra help you can get. What bugs me is the messages behind the words. Words are TOOLS, in the same way characters are tools, spanners are tools and so on so forth.

Yes, words do. Sentences. Complex meanings that express full ideas, and it's those ideas that evoke feelings in people.
Getting upset because someone off-handedly said "brother" is beyond handicapped.

I find that hilariously unlikely, because you're wrong.

" Jeesh, kid, you're so edgy you make me look like a circle!"oo stuff boi!!
Oops, I forgot, you're handicapped. Incapable of underestanding the most simple of ideas, it seems. Sorry, I'll try to remember in the future.

I wasn't aware I was crying over my keyboard just because you're too much man for me.

And some words are tools with larger meanings, histories, and contexts behind them?

almost like that slur has a message that represents a long history of racism

almost like that slur in particular has a message that portrays a long history of racism
A history that isn't relevant anymore. Whoa, that's crazy. Meanings... can... change??????

How many times are you going to accuse him of being, "edgy"?

ah yes, image macros, the last resort of a moron who can't say anything intelligible or, well, intelligent.
And some words are tools with larger meanings, histories, and contexts behind them?
alright i'm sorry i used a word that's commonly used in NYC, ill change it to dude or something i guess if that will make you happy

How any times are you going to accuse him of being, "edgy"?
He's trolling. Standard handicap fall-back.
Still, it's entertaining enough to humour his ideas of "arguments," so whatever.
