This is actually pretty cool. I knew there were electrical engines, but I was under the impression they sucked stuff and were only useful if you let them accumulate speed over years. Apparently my info came from extremely outdated sources.
Ion engines have gotten a lot better over the years. I'm not sure exactly how fast they accelerate, but this is from the NASA website: "The HiPEP ion thruster is currently the most powerful inert gas ion thruster ever built. Early tests in 2004 demonstrated power levels of 40 kilowatts and exhaust velocities in excess of 90,000 meters per second (over 200,000 mph)."
I dunno about you but that sounds like it can make a spaceship go zoom

yeah but the actual thrust they produce is measured in millinewtons.

i wanna go on a vacation to space

i want to be eternal with the stars

I want to live at least till were able to see colonization of another planet

I hope I get too

I just wanna be in star trek
but seriously this is cool as hell, finally NASA is relevant again

Bumping for anyone who didn't see yesterday

have a feeling by now that by the time I'm an adult there'll be nothing left to invent

not true. in the future, there will be robots.

not true. in the future, there will be robots.

wait

what if I'm trying to build a robot

there will always be something. if we've colonized our entire galaxy, you can always try to reach another one

thanks, that makes me feel better

it's just, y'know, sometimes the world feels kinda full of new inventions

not to sound "philisophical" or like an "edgy, depressed teen" but that's the thing, stuff like the hololens and this come out so fast

I'm glad they're being invented, though

break open into a new universe. kill all that does not follow our direction.

hololens isn't that complicated. I mean, smartphone apps existed that did the same kind of thing, like, years ago (I think...), just less refined
what would really be fascinating is actual holograms

there's really not much of an upper limit

wait good point

hololens is like fancy AR in a way

hmmm

that is actually a perfect way to describe it because it is exactly that

p cool developments goin on!! space travel always seems like some kind of far-off goal but we're slowly working towards it and it's p exciting whenever new things happen
