What happened?

Welcome, survivor, to fallout. In 2011, a massive Asian alliance -- the Eastern Security Treaty Organization -- decided it didn't like America anymore.
 So America was nuked into smithereens. Shortly thereafter, many things happened to the once great nation.
 The southern states have become their own nation: a fascist confederacy. The northern states have become their own nation as well: A socialist republic.
 Meanwhile, Dakota managed to dodge annexation and nukes alike. It is the only remaining union member... not much of a union now, if you think about it.

Russia has claimed several northwestern states as its own territory, as well as both Virginias. Saudi Arabia has claimed southern Michigan.
 Ukraine... yes, Ukraine, has claimed several western states, along with Delaware.
 China has claimed most of California, however North Korea has claimed the southwestern corner of Oregon, and South Korea has claimed the northwestern corner of California.
 Afghanistan- I couldn't make this up- has claimed Utah.

There were thousands of men and women that firmly believed America would be destroyed one day -- these people were called preppers.
 Apparently they were correct. Not only were they correct, but they planned well enough to form their own micronations throughout American soil.
 Most of the preppers that emerged in the Union, the Socialist States, and the Fascist states were content with reintegrating themselves into society.
 However, in claimed territories they are adamantly resistant against the foreign governments. This is why most independent territories have manifested in claimed land.


Why should I care?

Back to America being nuked and being split into 11+ other nations:
This is where you come in.
For whatever reason, you were one of the unfortunate souls to have been in America when the bombs dropped. Luckily, however, you were not in the blast zone.
Good luck, try not to die, and never accept a handjob from a radioactive hobo.
