Author Topic: Black Mesa is now on Steam  (Read 1242 times)

Following the Black Mesa Research Facility countdown reaching zero moments ago, the modern, third-party remake of Half-Life is now available on Steam.

Here's the thing:
- It's Early Access
- It costs $20 now and $25 when it's done
- It has multiplayer and Steam Workshop support for maps
- It still doesn't have Xen

Not sure how I feel about this yet.

I'm dissapointed really
why the forget is a MOD for a game that doesnt even replicate the full game yet cost TWICE the price of the game its based off of?
especially considering the fact theres barely any difference to the free version other than 6 multiplayer maps, you may as well save your money and get the free one.

I'll keep my free Black Mesa, thanks

id rather it be 20 dolla and have the full game, this is an unfinished, unpolished piece of whatever code this is writen in, probably c++
early access shoulda been 10 dolla

These guys expect people to buy an HD remake to a game people already own?

yea screw the devs don't support them at all

The mod was really really good so I have no issue at all buying it. When xen comes out im sure I'll enjoy it then too.

I don't think you guys realize just how much these devs put into the game. All new voice acting, music, sounds and models all by a team of 10ish people. I'd have been happy paying 20 bucks to get a redone hl1 when the mod was first released (for free !) And I'm happy paying now.

barely any difference to the free version

exactly, you can either use the free, unfinished version, or you can buy the full version which will have more content

don't like it? well that's just too loving bad, development is expensive and nobody should be expected to work on the same remake for 5+ years for free

What?
They've spent 10 years of hard work working on an HD remake of a game they loved, added in multiplayer and workshop support. At this point it's basically its own game. Don't like paying for it? Good for you, don't pay for it.

Oh, I just tought they released the same mod for money, not "remake" it.

There use to be things called total conversions which was like turning one game into a whole new game. I think it is okay for a modder want to became an dev, however the fact that they are want people to pay 20 USD for remake of a game that is already on steam when I can spend 14.99 on one item to get TFC, HF1, HF:OP, and HF:BS as well as download the HD pack for free of the steam forums through the support forums.

They've been working on this remake since 2004, I think they deserve a little compensation for their effort.

edit: But I agree, $25 seems a bit much for a remake of a game in a $15 four-game pack

Yeah I'm not saying it shouldn't cost money, I'm just saying it costs wayy too much
Like I was thinking originally something like 5 dollars or possibly 10
