Introduction to Touhou Touhou is a series of danmaku (bullet hell) games played on an arcade-like vertical screen. They are all absurdly hard in difficulty and is often confused with anime. If you get hit by a single bullet, you die. Thankfully, however, your hitbox is very small. You must survive by doing a variety of different movements, ranging from making very very slight movements to running across the entire playfield. You may have already heard the soundtrack from Touhou without even knowing it. This is because the composer, also ZUN, has very good composition with his songs. You may have heard of the song
'U.N. Owen Was Her' or
'Beloved Tomboyish Girl' Of course, you cannot forget those
blaring Annoying Orangeets. ZUN has made
25 games in the series. 14 are actual bullet hell games, 10 are spin-offs that sometimes break off from the formula of the original games. New to touhou? I recommend playing Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (Touhou 6) or Perfect Cherry Blossom (Touhou 7).
