nice idea, but that's assuming you're next to a shore

I am going to cape town.
The order of business is to get other Dutch merchants in on the deal and to trade in a caravan, preferably LAMs, and also to see if the Dutch navy will be willing to support us when we sail back to Cape Town.

And I am following the southbound current, rather than facing the Doldrums.

We get as far away from the Spanish as we possibly can, then repair.

your masts are shot, you won't make it far and it's hard to repair a ship while sailing said ship

Okay, then make a ·) shape from the formation with the pirate in the middle, but done rotationally as to whatever may be more convenient, then fire inwards.

Also what is that unicode program that you use?

also, the pirate's ship is severely damaged, with the masts destroyed, and it's taking in water.
go in and battle for the plunder, finish him off, or let him drown?

you and your merchants have received a couple blows and might be travelling a little slower, but overall you're not too badly damaged because he had to spread out his shots
