Author Topic: Furry convention in my city  (Read 2819 times)

As a furry, I find the conventions interesting but oh so cringe worthy.

The interesting part is the fur suits since they can be really creative. Everything else makes me want to just kms from the embarrassment.

Now's your chance to put mustard gas in the ventilatoon system

I'm curious, if you like fursuits then what is it you find cringeworthy?
I mean fursuits are the strangest part, outside of that part it's pretty much the same thing as any other convention

I mean fursuits are the strangest part
I'm guessing wearing them in public, and performing activities (like go-karting) in them.

I can kinda understand that.
I don't do any sort of dressing up like Cosplay or Fancy Dress, but I like a lot of outfits I see. I'd maybe even dress up at home with friends in a party, but I don't think I could ever go out in public dressed up.

I personally find the events such as like dancing and playing around to just be awkward.
Also some of the ways people act at the cons is disturbing.

I love to see some of the characters, and to go with what you said it is pretty much the same thing as any other convention, but some people take it a bit to far with the whole fursona thing and the size of some people in the suits can make things disturbing imo.

Don't get me wrong though, it's not my job to tell you what to enjoy/do or what not to. If you enjoy it, go nuts. I've been a furry for a few years now and I've always found the cons like this.

I don't mean you directly, just in general.

how...
like, I get it if you're not attracted to overweight people, but how is it "disturbing"?

Okay, I personally see overweight fursuits as "disturbing" since it really distorts the anthro animal itself. I don't see them and start thinking I'm going to puke, i just feel uncomfortable.  I see skinny anthro suits as normal since I'm used to it. It's appealing to me to see normal weight suits I don't know what else to say.

It's more like the suit doesn't adjust to the person in it. It's better when the suit/design makes use of their figure imo.

Pretty much this.

I understand the reactions people have. For most people, it's quite unlike anything they've every seen.
But a lot of people think the general public hates them because of the interactions they have with people online, and are thus afraid to talk about it, but the reality is, outside of the internet, most people don't even have a clue what's going on, or even what a furry is. The idea of people dressing in animal costumes (outside of things like sports mascots or Disney land) is completely new thing to most people, and there reactions are mostly curiosity/amusement
Also, the staff of the hotels these cons are held at are used to it. I've even seen some participating.
And it sounds like go-karting is part of the hotel

I personally find the events such as like dancing and playing around to just be awkward.
Then don't go to those specific events? I'm not a dancer so I don't go to dances.
There's a ton of other stuff to do.; video/board games, all sorts of panels, or just general socializing/hanging out with friends
Also I'm not sure what you mean by "playing around"

Also some of the ways people act at the cons is disturbing.
I'll give you that one.
You gather a couple thousand people all together in one hotel, there's gonna be a few weirdos. There's no way around that

but some people take it a bit to far with the whole fursona thing
I'm not sure what you mean by this

I've been a furry for a few years now and I've always found the cons like this.
tbh I felt the same way when I first started
But six years later a con started in my state, I went to it for one of the three days just to give it a try, and had a ton of fun. A couple months later I drove 400 miles to attend a larger con with some friends, and can't wait to go back
Maybe your opinions will change in a few years too

Large suit doesn't automatically mean large person inside it
A lot of suits just have added padded to make the character appear larger/toonier or change their shape

Don't get me wrong though, it's not my job to tell you what to enjoy/do or what not to.
I just think you'd enjoy it if you gave it a chance

It finally ends today

They can get out of my city

Don't worry, they'll be back next year, in larger numbers
