Get your head on screwed straight and stop staring with stuff smeared vision, things have only gotten better over time.

I'm going to assume you're being aggressive because you had a bad day today. Did your mom put superglue in your hair last night?

Directed at everyone:

Recent years makes sense due to larger trained police forces and more crackdown on crimes coupled with better investigations essentially scaring most would-be offenders away from being criminals.

My issue was with 50-100 years ago. Widespread shootings in schools and public areas, bombings, and most terrorist activities simply weren't commonplace things.

As I've heard, violence primarily picked up in the '70s (Vietnam era). Columbine happened in the '90s and it seems that domestic terrorism has escalated from there.

But whatever, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. It's too late at night for me to argue effectively right now. If I were comparing 2005 to now, then yes, I'm sure we're in better hands now than at that time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_disaster - 45 people (38 children, 6 adults) killed in 1927.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Whitman - 16 people killed, 32 wounded, 1966.

These two below took place in the same year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulsa_race_riot - 39 officially killed, 55-300 suspected dead, 1921.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Blair_Mountain - 1 million rounds fired, at least 60 people killed according to conservative estimates, possibly 130 people killed. Gas bombs leftover from WWI were used in the battle.

By all accounts, we're living in very peaceful times. 90 years ago a war practically occurred inside the nation.

Nah, I just have a special dislike for fearmongerers.

there were tons of terrorist acts and the like 50-100 years ago
it's just that now they're easier to report on with cell phone cameras and the internet whereas before they may have been left alone or just to rumor

The only reason people have
a stuffty backwards attitude
Is because of the news.

People forget that the news is a business that relies on people watching their reports. Crime, statistically speaking, gets the most attention, so majority of what we see is all of the bad that goes on. 100-150 years ago I'm sure there were much more tragic and/or violent occurrences that would cause someone's stomach to turn if it was on the news.

Imagine if CNN reported on the trail of tears or on Aushwitgz with like live recordings or something. That would be some crazy turn of events

Several factions of rival motorcycle gangs are believed responsible for a large gunfight that killed nine bikers and injured 18 outside a Waco, Texas restaurant, authorities said Sunday.

The lunchtime shooting sent witnesses scrambling for cover outside the Twin Peaks Restaurant where a shootout spilled out into the parking lot between three known “rival criminal biker gangs,” Waco Police Sgt. W Patrick Swanton said at a press conference.

Several law enforcement agencies including uniformed Waco police officers were already outside the restaurant as hundreds of gang members converged. They were expecting trouble. Despite their presence, the shootout ignited with officers returning fire amid pandemonium.

“We are not horse playing,” Swanton said. “So many rounds were fired from bad guy weapons here. It is amazing that innocent civilians were not injured here."

No officers were among the 18 injured in what he described as the biggest gun battle in the history of Waco’s city limits.

“In 34 years of law enforcement, this is the most violent crime scene I have ever been involved in,” Swanton added.
Holy stuff.

Only in Texas

I'm just glad the only injuries and deaths were from criminals
