Author Topic: Rate my next build!  (Read 955 times)

I'm excited for a new build since my current one just isnt up to par with new game since its running a 4 year old gpu and other things are wrong with the system so I feel its time to start anew.

I felt like I need a nice red build.

I get home Ill put the build items in the thread itself for the lazy. I also didn't feel this needed to be in the megathread since I want to put the finished build in that thread.

AMD is good for low budget build. With an $1800 budget, go with an Intel CPU
Go with i5 4690k

Those case fans are the wrong size; according to newegg it needs 200mm front fans and 140mm rear fans. Additionally, I don't think the case even has room for 4 more. It looks like there's only room for one more on the side

Before spending extra money on a 144hz monitor, know that depending on what games your playing, you might not even be able to push much more than 60 fps on max

Corsair K70 is really cool, actually. I own one myself. If you do plan on buying one, I recommend you buy the Corsair M65 Sabre RGB (or something along those lines) to go along with it.

True, so I took your advice and went with an Intel CPU. I usually stick to AMD for CPU's since I generally stick to low end builds.

The fans were the wrong size, since I just through them on without looking at the specs. So I just took them out.

And that surprises me since I thought the 980 would be more than capable with a 144hz with the 4gb of vram.

I feel like that would be TOO much RGB 4 me.

You can get a 4790k at micro center for the same price of your current CPU and $40 off of a motherboard

Source: that's what I did

Depends on what you're playing. For blockland, you could spend half as much on a card and get a couple hundred fps with shaders and a sizable brick count. For a recent high intensity fps like bf4, no.
If it's something  mainstream and modern, Google  "<your video card> benchmarks" or "<your video card> benchmarks <game>"and see if you can find what kind of fps people are getting

Also you could probably don't need to buy thermal grease; every cooler I've ever bought has included some

I do usual re applying because I'm OCD about dust in my PC.

a full tower seems a little unnecessary.

and im confused why a higher budget build is using amd :\
oct-4.0 is nice and all, but an intel quad-3.5 is better lol

I'm interested in why you feel that it's unnecessary.

and I reconsidered that and I took advice. Primarily gonna go with an I5. 4690k

just cuz full towers are so huge XD
usually ok for water cooling loops cuz they need that space. but they are so big XD

Very true. I usually like to make my builds larger than needed just for possible upgrades and as you said for water cooling.

I still get nervous with WC builds because I've heard so many horror stories about it.

i dont even see the advantage of a custom loop anymore.
even with 2 video cards and the processor, having a bunch of all in one coolers is cheaper and works better anyways. without all that stuffty maintenance.

many high end video cards are now coming with preinstalled aio coolers anyway, thats a fad that is going to pick up now.

the phantoms come with their own case fans. my 630 came with an absurdly large front, top, and rear fan. it doesn't say whether or not the 530 comes with its own top fan on nzxt's site though

thermal paste shouldn't get dusty though, your heatsink does.

your thermal paste is sandwiched between the cpu and the cooler
taking the cooler off to "clean" it is the only way to introduce dust into there

does anyone actually do that
how does it even work
i can't imagine the bottom would get decent airflow
like do you just take this giant full size case and turn it on it's side

the case has very tall feeties. on mine there's like, a 1in gap between my desk and the bottom of my case. i don't really see the point of bottom fans tho
