Author Topic: why are men portrayed so badly in media and television?  (Read 2949 times)

I also have a boner right now.

i think it's cus they're uh... what's the word im looking for

ah yes. not. they're not portrayed badly.
i disagree
although i wouldn't blame "feminational socialists" there is definitely a problem with masculinity in the media
some of these unfairnesses:

men can't interact with children they don't know or they're child molesters
men can't be victims of domestic violence
men can't be raped
circumcision (genital mutilation is ok for men but not women)
men can't express emotions that aren't angry/happy/etc

i cant think of any more right now
three of them are a product of toxic masculinity
the other two are reflections of our culture (mania about child enthusiasts and the normalization of circumcision)

i'd like to distance myself from MRAs but there are mens' issues that need to be addressed

edit: i kind of misread everything

men aren't really portrayed badly IMO, it's more that female characters usually fit certain tropes and their characters aren't very dynamic. but male characters are all over the board so some of them are dopey or evil or 'bad' but some of them are good.

because gender stereotypes suggest that men are more inclined towards aggressive behaviour and media assists in affirming cultural views such as these

yes it does

you know that's not what i'm talking abouttt

if there's any reason why men are portrayed badly it's because they have the power. as long as you have an inequal society, you're going to have animosity towards those in power.

I don't know considering the obvious satire behind what I said. Jokes on you I was only pretending insert in 3 2 1

Frankly I don't see a problem with making fun of men in general. Making fun of people is wrong when they're already at the stuff end of the stick, but men generally ruled the world for quite some time. We like to laugh at authority figures, not those who are suffering under authority. Although that commercial wasn't funny, it's problem isn't that a man was being made fun of.
