Author Topic: Why Doesn't Badspot Hire A Bigger* Team Or Have A Voluntary Search?  (Read 2822 times)

I know he's probably working on some update of some sort, but I'm wondering... why doesn't he just hire a close team to help him or maybe voluntary search if he doesn't have the funds? The process would just go more faster and there would be so much revival and innovation. Maybe I'm not seeing the way others see it, but I feel like Blockland is much more lonely now. There are only 200+ people playing daily even though we have... what 150000+ keys bought? Plus, I feel if he does hire a team (or it becomes bigger at a small period of time), they should make like 5+ distinct servers running active for a few weeks for the new comers so that it would show how interesting the game actually is. I'm pretty sure this game can definitely beat Roblox or Club Penguin in popularity size in a instant. What do you guys think about this?

I feel like 90% of the game has been turned over to the modding community
The official updates seem to be more about expanding the capabilities of the community and fixing dire bugs

Then what's the plan. Is it us?

Community coding, modeling and it's 200k fanbase will keep Blockland alive.

if badspot used his 10000000000000 dollars for advertising i wonder if we could be more popular than klub penguin

why do people keep complaining about "oh there's only 200+ people playing at any given time so the game is /dead/"
do you understand that people don't sit at their computers 10 hours a day playing computer legos? there's going to be low player counts until people have free time or have access to a computer to actually play. there are tons of dedicated players that love blockland but they just can't give the time to play

Badspot probably only makes enough money from blockland to cover his rent. He doesn't get 100% of the cash from each key, he probably gets more like 20%.
Why would he need a team? Blockland is pretty much finished in development, and the forums are moderated just fine by himself and rotondo.
Blockland evolves with community content. Every game has a end point with development, blockland has reached it (not to say the game is drying up or "dying") blockland will continue to evolve with its commity.
Hiring a development team would be stupid. Updates doesn't mean the community would get better. I think you don't have a great understanding of how computer game development works.

Oh okay, thanks for enlightening me guys. That's why I said "Maybe I'm not seeing the way others see it." Oh well.

Where does the rest of this money go? I can see the government taking 20% or even 50%, but where would this other 60-30$ go? I just find it implausible that the creator of the game only gains 20% of the initial payment.

Hire me Badspot. I'll  do your laundry real good.

he probably gains around 50% on his blockland.us site, but over steam, hes probably getting 20%

torque takes a cut I'm sure, steam and amazon will also take cuts

im pretty sure blockland is independent of torque at this point, steam and amazon still take cuts though

Why dont we update the game ourself?
We'll make our own blockland, with blackjack and hookers.

Only reason I could see them hiring a team would be if they were to take on a massive project that took more time than it did creativity.  Something like porting Blockland to a new and improved engine.  This would obviously take tons of time, but not a whole lot of innovative coding or creativity, so it would make sense to hire a team of henchmen to do that for you and for you to moderate them to make sure they don't mess up.

I highly doubt Badspot intends on changing engines/anything else that would take that kinda man power to accomplish though, so whatevs.

Yes! And we can call it "The Better Mod"  :cookieMonster:
