United States has the highest death rate by firearms in the first world and I swear it's because things this are allowed.

Point at him and yell as loudly as possible "He has a gun!"

Well if it actually was a real full-auto assault rifle, they can be arrested for that as afaik full-auto weapons are banned.

Read the page, it's calculated by population density.

not banned per se, but the legal process for getting one is so stringent that i dont believe any mass shooting has been committed with a legally registered auto weapon

I swear it's because things this are allowed.

Considering approximately 61% of all firearm related deaths in the US are accidental, and that the US has an approximate population of 325,127,000 people... stuff happens?

There's no denying that guns can be dangerous when wielded in the wrong hands, but gun crime is actually getting statistically lower every year.

Exactly what I said, it's because things like this are allowed.

I don't think open-carry permits are correlated to gun crime and death. In fact, one may argue it's a component in stopping the former half.

Contrary to what you may think, people don't just walk out of their home with a fully automatic ak-47 and mow down everyone on sight.

people don't just walk out of their home with a fully automatic ak-47 and mow down everyone on sight.

let alone a legal one

Regardless of the reason, obviously US has the highest gun problem in the first world.

Considering you said around 61% of deaths are accidental, I'm assuming those would mainly be caused by incorrect handling of a firearm obtained with a permit. Much like the gun the guy in the article was carrying.

Guns wouldn't be perpetuating the issue, it pretty much falls under the case that some states are more lenient with their gun permits than others.

In my opinion, if safety classes and training were mandatory for owning a firearm, it would cut the death rate in half. People just don't have the proper respect for firearms, and in turn don't take their ownership of a weapon seriously.

You're right about one thing though, the man in the article is part of the problem. Guys like him don't realize just how dangerous they can be with a gun in their hands.

You don't carry large weapons like that to get a rise out of people. That's the opposite of open carry intentions.

"Oh yeah let's just carry this huge gun into the airport. Nobody will give a stuff."

The problem is the culture, not the availability. In general we aren't as phased by violence as Europeans are for example. We got movies and songs glorify the gangsta life style by poppin pills and doing drivebys in the hood with your hommies. Even things like movies and games are can be really violent and they too have come under public scrutiny. Doom was heavily bashed because the Columbine shooters played it and made levels possibly based on their school, the Virginia Tech shooter played a lot of counter strike and that game was bashed by the media. People are quick to blame something.

Personally I think the problem is rooted in the persons mind. Contrary to popular belief, a lot of countries in the EU actually let you own guns. France and Germany have some of the highest ownership rights in the EU. The Czech republic lets you open carry. Even the countries like Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland let you own guns. Yet very rarely we hear about something bad happen.

Also if you think these are problem

You are dead wrong, pistols are actually the problem

if you look in the FBI's uniform crime report, the number of deaths related to rifles and shotguns is completely dwarfed by handguns. Also look at California, lots of laws and regulations on fire arms here. Yet we have more gun deaths than some of the more gun tolerant states. Heck a lot of people were punches kicked and stabbed death.

also single victims out number multiple victim homicides

The problem is that there are too many factors. We can't blame guns alone. Also the people you expect to control guns like the police are actually pretty pro 2nd amendment. My college major is criminal justice, my professors all retired police, and I too am pro second amendment. There are lot of people out there who shouldn't have guns, and there are also morons who aren't helping the second amendment by open carrying in public. That guy in the airport is one of them.
