Author Topic: I am having an issue with a old game  (Read 644 times)

Difficulties with old games from the 2000's and 1990's are usually a big problem when playing those type of games on windows 8 and later systems, now as time passes these games often get a patch or a remaster or someone just fixes the problem. Take Max Payne 1 for example, the game on windows 8 will play awfully when you first downloaded it but when you do a Google search to find out the issue you'll come a across a fix and the problem is dealt with.

But in my perspective I had have a issue with the sims 1, a game that EA has left in a dusty box in their loft. This game is old, really old but it seems not many people play it but I do because its better than the other sims games you get today (In my opinion of course and the sims 2 isn't bad either). So when ever I play the sims 1 and I decide to go back to desktop to just browse the internet or something, I will then go back into the sims 1 with this problem:

This issue is so frustrating like trying to fight the handymen on hard mode in Bioshock infinite. How exactly can I fix this issue? I have tried compatibility modes and run as admin but that doesn't work. Another problem I have with the sims 1 is that if I play it with steam the steam Tab + shift preference does not work at all but meanwhile back in windows 7 it did work. This is really confusing and I would like to have someone help me and fix this issue right away. Thank you.

my brother likes to play older games. closing explorer.exe when he launched/ran the game helped some of the issues he had

to open explorer.exe back up again just open task manager and make a new task -> explorer.exe

It's fine. All Explorer does is manage the pretty desktop icons and the taskbar at the bottom. Disabling it just makes you unable of navigating the computer through regular means, and re-enabling it works just fine.

you can use ctrl + shift + esc to open task manager, as you cannot use taskbar after closing explorer.exe

ah all it does is just make a dark blue screen on my pc because of windows 8, that doesn't do anything except block me out of desktop while playing the game which isn't really what I'm looking for. The issue is a texture mess up as seen in the video

edit: I also tried setting the game's affinity to 1 and that doesn't fix the issue either

ctrl alt delete?
edit: i thought you said only instead of can, my bad
