Author Topic: How good is avast?  (Read 1743 times)

I need an antivirus on my laptop and I don't trust the one that my dad bought because I never heard of it. Now I understand avast is free (I think) so how good is it?

The name I the program my dad got is Webroot Secure Anywhere

avast is free for the simple stuff but it starts to annoy you about buying it after a while
just use microsoft security essentials, if you have windows. it is free

use malwarebytes instead

From my understanding, I had a friend that had avast on his PC. It was slowing down A LOT, so I ran a malware scan, and detected over 2000+ objects. We're pretty sure the source was avast, but we're guaranteed it was.

So you think that Avast PUT malware on his computer? That's what it sounds like you're saying here.

Right now im using F-secure, because i got a 1-year license as a gift at some point and figured it would be worth a try, Before that i used Avira and Malwarebytes.

Bundles itself with "new price found" adware (or at least it did last time I used it)

MSE + malwarebytes has been working great for me
