Author Topic: hodot's going vegetarian - lasted 11 days  (Read 25964 times)

It's fine and all to want to be a part of what you think is a greater cause, but when you start saying you're better than everyone else because you're a part of that "greater cause", that's when it becomes a problem
absolutely, that's just arrogance

absolutely, that's just arrogance

On the hierarchy of arrogance, I'd say taboo is on a much lower scale than zealot is in this case. Zealot barged into the thread to tell everyone how he had more self control than hodot because he's been a self-made vegetarian since he was 4 (which is debatable, considering a four-year-old may have issues balancing his or her own diet to fit a vegan lifestyle)

Taboo's only guilty of being harsh, I'd say.

you guys all make it sound like i'm a rooster about it
i dont dislike people who eat meat. at all. i'm fine with it. i'm not "morally superior." i dont go around and slap my vegetarianism in people's faces.

i think everyone's talking about zealot since he's put on a bit of an unfortunate display

Don't worry, they're bashing zealot and taboo not you
ur still good

is this a statement on trying to change people's world views, or a demonstration of a conservative standpoint?
Former.

i slightly doubt this is the main gripe, but supplements are widely available to address that if a person so desires. nothing wrong with giving up a bit of money and convenience for what someone perceives to be a greater cause.
Sure, if it were actually a greater cause, but it's not at all. That's just entirely misguided.

I kind of agree considering the sentiment of veganism is entirely useless. People argue that it's about learning self control, but there's tons of less intrusive lifestyles that you can take up that actually do make you a better person.

I don't see a point in randomly not eating meat unless you don't like eating meat.

People like Zealot (apt name, by the way, how has no one pointed this out yet) throw around words like "cruel," but how is it cruel to eat something that's already dead and in front of you? If anything, it's vastly more cruel to waste the food that its life has brought to you, not to mention how much work has (maybe) gone into getting it there.

i completely agree with this statement, and this is why i'm not doing it for that "cause"

that's the debatable part i guess. it's fair enough to disagree, don't look down on someone because of it

a more-clear way to say what i'm tryin to say i guess:

whether or not someone eats meat is a really bad and arbitrary way to try and discern any kind of superiority. people value different things and there's nothin wrong with that. people that eat meat aren't cruel monsters. people that don't eat meat aren't stupid hippies. i'd say that's p reasonable

taboo
stop telling people that being a vegetarian is bad/misguided/stupid/a hippie thing, it's their choice. i agree that not eating meat seems pointless and i don't get it either, but it's not your place to tell people about it. atm you're just acting like the opposite coin of zealot

and i think hodot has pretty well clarified that he just did it as a challenge rather than for any meaningful reason

I wouldn't say so. The decisions someone makes regarding their health and lifestyle are some of the most important aspects of a person in terms of both defining their character and also how you can interact with them.
One of my best friends is a vegetarian (Because she doesn't like meat, of course :^)) and going out to eat with her is a wild time because of how hard it is to agree on a place to go to.

Please actually read the thread before "putting in your two cents" or whatever.

i did read it, and you're being a little passive aggressive about it
although i regret saying you're as bad as zealot because you're not

the key word is "superiority," genuinely considering them an inferior individual in some respect, and not whether or not you'll enjoy their company

i defo understand that a conflict like that could make it difficult to get along with someone perfectly
