Because it's an excessory to your phone. Not a necessity, but it does make things easier at times.
You can
They generally don't add features, but make them easier to use. And it's just replacing something that a lot of people already where, so it's not really adding another device.
The only real downside is that you have to plug it in for around an hour once a week. That is, if you get a good smartwatch (AKA a Pebble).
Smartwatches are things that not everyone needs/wants. But it's definitely made my life easier.
You're paying hundreds of dollars or more so your phone stays in your pocket. Yeah, sure, totally worth it lmao.

i wear a watch partly because i feel naked without it and party because we aren't allowed to have phones out at school under any circumstances and none of the classrooms have clocks.

i have a white timex ironman triathalon that i got to replace my old black/pink 30 lap ironman. i'd love to get a binary watch (because they look cool) and a smart watch (because of the usefulness) at some point though

G-Shocks are where its at

yknow it really grinds my gears when they have the nerve to list the features on the outside of the watch itself, probably not gonna get one of those.

LAME
Got mine for $90. It's normally $100 tho.

Also, mine lasts a full week on a charge. Which, of course, compared to a regular watch is nothing, but I only have to charge for around an hour once a week so the usefulness of outways the annoyance of having to charge it.

Also, it vibrates on my arm every morning as my alarm and works really well at waking me.

LOL

What is the point of a smart watch? Is it too much work to pull out a phone when you want to do something other than check the time?

Considering that that's the only benefit he was able to give to justify having one? Yes, apparently.

I am no longer watching this topic

i have a pretty cool watch with LED's under a seemingly opaque rubber coating

it makes for interesting chats because it looks like a toy watch or something but then you push the watch's surface and BAM there's the time

LOL
Not smartwatches, the Apple Watch is gross and lame.

I'm curious, what puts it off to you relative to what you have?

You can do a lot of things on a smart watch such as the apple watch. People like taboo are jealous or something, not sure why they are so infuriated over people getting what they want

Poor battery life. Screen that's not always on and can't be seen in daylight. Over-complicated UI (yes I've tried one in person).
